Portland was a very tough team for the Lakers last year. Don't be surprised by an upset tonight. The blazers are young, the Lakers need to hit em hard at the beginning and get in their heads, otherwise watch out. |

interesting situation.
but if he does do well in these games, there's a good chance imo that an extention will happen, and we wont' have these kind of worries throughout the season.

Mcmillan claimed that he wanted to keep the core of the bench player together which is Outlaw, Fernandez, Bayless, Frye and Pryzbilla.
The other reason Batum i starting is because he's supposed to be their defensive specialist. I'm pretty sure he's going to be on Kobe. Poor kid. _________________ Eighth grade key phrases are crucial tools for this type of subterfuge: "team player", "make teammates better", "ballhog", "selfish", "court vision": all dripping with sanctimony and defamation. |

Travis Outlaw is an athletic freak. He always find a way to torture the the Lakers. I'm glad, he's not gonna start. |

Speaking of the Lakeshow, they will be featured in the main game against the up and coming portland trail blazers headlined by their rookie Big Man, Gregg Oden... This will be a fun game for sure with Andrew manning the middle for the Purple and Gold and Oden trying to prove himself worthy of the top pick selection in last year's draft. I cant wait for this game to start! The Blazers historically have given fits to LA and with the core of Oden, Roy, and Aldridge, this game should prove to be a real test for the Western Conference champs and league favorite to win it all this season. They Key for LA is to have a hot start and dominate on the defensive end. But this game will be won by how the 2nd unit responds headed by Farmar, Ariza, ODom, Walton, and The Machine. The fast paced game of the bench mob should throw the Blazer reserves out of balance! The Key is that they come in and run right away.. If Jordan's first couple of possesions goes well, then that should build up his already high confidence and drive the blazers nuts with his explosive moves and lightning quick speed! If Luke will come out and play the way he usually does, giving around 8-12 points in 20 minutes, the lakers should be in good shape regardless of how the ever enegmatic Odom plays. In this game, we should also see the twin tower at work. During the pre-Season, Bynum and Gasol slowly but surely meshed and developed a few passing game that leads to AB tearing the rim apart. With the low post presence of AB and PAu, things should open up for the Space Cadet.. RAdman should be able to get some open looks and he should make those count.. With fisher, you know his going to take his shot... I just hope he makes them consistently as he isnt exactly the pass first type of PG and is isnt shy about taking the shot... And to complete the roster is non-other than the Mamba! You know he's bringing his A game! Let's just hope the MVP decides to play a balanced game instead of the pass too much or take all the shots guy we have seen switching places in past few years. LAst season seemed to be the perfect balance KB was looking for but I was hoping he'd turn into Mr. 81 during the Finals..

Webster is injured IIRC - only played 1 preseason game.
Outlaw will likely matchup with Odom off the bench. I think there are some real interesting matchups in this game.
Bryant vs Roy
Bynum vs Oden
Gasol vs Aldridge
Odom vs Outlaw
Farmar vs Bayless
Even Sasha vs Fernandez might turn out to be an interesting match up.
No doubt the these are 2 very deep teams, that will have many individual battles going on throughout the game. |

If Batum is going to guard Kobe then I feel sorry for him, his first NBA game and he has to guard one of the greatest players to of ever played the game and the reginning MVP. _________________ "This is a comptitive city. Oh no. Steve Blake is starting. I hope, someone challenge his outside shots. That's the problem with the Lakers. They're never willing to challenge outside shooters. I think Blake and Rudy Fernandez are going to give them major problems tonight. |

Lakers-Blazers preview: 'We are the future,' McMillan says
Quote: | With animated hands, and a look-you-in-the-eye stare, Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan stood before his team on the eve of Tuesday night's NBA season opener and delivered perhaps his most important speech of his four-year tenure in Portland.
McMillan lay awake the night before, knowing one of the most anticipated Blazers seasons in years was about to start. And just for a little more theater and flair, the season tipoff was against the Blazers' most heated rival of all - the Los Angeles Lakers.
"They are the present," McMillan said of the defending Western Conference champions. "And we are the future."
As opening night approached, McMillan felt the same nerves as he always has during his 12 year playing career and now nine year coaching career. But Sunday night, in his bed, he realized something about his feelings, and he wanted to share them with his team.
So at the end of Monday's final preseason practice, the team gathered around their stoic coach.
When McMillan started talking, the team mostly appeared to be staring off into space. But after his first words, many heads dropped.
"Are you nervous?" the coach asked.
Not a word in response.
It wasn't until McMillan spoke again that heads raised and bodies shifted.
"I am," McMillan said.
"I believe in you," McMillan recounted afterward. "I told them I feel we are ready. That I feel I have a group. If I was going in there by myself, or if I was going in there without enough, then I would be nervous. But I'm going in there with you. And I believe in you." |

Well, no teams can stop Kobe except maybe the Celtics. The point, i'm trying to make is that. Our players can't really defend outside shooters. I think only, Kobe and Ariza are the only who can. We need other players to do the same. Remember, that's one of the problems we had against the Celtics. Sure, we didn't have Bynum inside. But, Ray Allen, Eddie House, and James Posey were knocking down wide open jumpers because, none of our players were willing to make stop and challenging their shots. I really hope they can fix this problem. |

Nothing "official" about it. That's just a projected possible lineup, and it says that quite clearly.
Phil's lineups are never official, nor known for sure, until right before game time. Especially in situations like these. |

the mere fact that Phil of all coaches who is very reluctant to pull established players for someone else in the starting lineup saw enough of Odom with Bynum and Pau in practice alone speaks volumes. It obviously did not look nearly as good as with Rad or Ariza . _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Here's to the new season. It was such a long off-season. Olympics was fun, but there's nothing like Lakers basketball. The Bynum-Oden match-up should be interesting. _________________ If you meet the Buddha in the lane, feed him the ball. ~Phil Jackson |

Oh, man, I can't wait for the game. I have no idea how I'll stay awake until 3:30 AM, though, because it's been a while since I watched a live game (Game 4 of the Finals), but I know it's going to be worth the wait.

You know Bynum is going to be pumped for this. He's gonna' want to take it to Oden in a big way.
Oden better wear a hat, because I don't think Drew is done makin' it rain... |
