Off the top of my head...

Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Super Mario Brothers 3
Mega Man 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Metal Gear Solid

Most recently, I found that Silent Hill 2's soundtrack was amazing.

Stardust from the Commodore 64 "Lazy Jones" game

A Winner is You! from NES "Pro Wrestling"

I don't think I even played these games unless it was from an emulator.

Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II deserve honorable mention. I'm talking old school NES here.

GTA
Zelda
Final Fantasy.

Obviously the production quality of FF series and Zelda are unparalleled since they are full blown orchestras.
But GTA was just very entertaining.

Final Fantasy 7 & 8

Ghost 'n Goblins for the 1980's retro arcade. Creepy organ music, and still the hardest game I have ever played.

Mega Man (the NES ones)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Metroid/Metroid Prime
Castlevania
Final Fantasy
Mario

I actually make MIDI files of video game music that I like, all completely from scratch. Unfortunately I am a lazy bastard and most of them are unfinished and will probably remain that way. I do a lot of Mega Man stuff. If anybody is interested in some samples, you can PM if you want.

The original Ninja Gaiden for the NES

That game was really ahead of its time. Had some nasty beats for an 8bit system lol

One of the single best songs I've heard on a video game in my nearly 30 years of gaming was in one of the early "Knockout Kings" games by EA Sports...I think it might have been the rapper "O," but the lyrics of the song were ridiculous:

Since trainin' camp aimin' at
maintainin' champ status
and at this
I could shock the world live
round 5 im'ma put him on the canvas
paint him into a corner and take advantage
you could see it in his eyes when his pride vanish
his traininer and his cut man screamin' at him in spanish

That's all I remember off the top - that was prolly 8 or 9 years ago. I've tried finding something on the net but haven't been able to yet...

Nice, how are they on the Wii? Like the NES or SNES versions? I never really liked the SNES trilogy version for some reason, probably because of the edited songs haha.

btw, lol @

got them from the Wii Shop channel on the Wii. You buy points, and you use those points to download games. NES games are 500 pts so I got all 3 for $15 total. $10 gets you 1,000 points. I used the other 500 to get Punch Out! lol

that song (the original version) was my favorite in the game.
