I was eating at Claim Jumpers last night and left with the impression that most restaurants either A) don't buy great tasting meat or B) they don't know how to prepare/cook it properly. My wife and I split an Ore Cart (rotisserie chicken, baby back ribs, beef ribs) and I was extremely unfulfilled with the quality of the ribs. The meat was very fatty, tough, and tasted like it had been boiled too long before it was thrown on the grill. I'm aware this doesn't count as true BBQ, but it's the inspiration for this topic.

So, name your favorite BBQ joints -- the places that know how to titillate your senses.

If you're ever in Santa Clarita be sure to stop by Rattler's. You can't beat it for the price and it's damn good to boot.

True, but is there anything local that's considered semi-bbq? Down South and Texas are always vying for best BBQ. Here's another question, what type of BBQ do you guys like best? Sweet or Salty?

Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse

No gas, no electricity. 32-oz top sirloin on a mesquite pit. Absolutely fantastic. Also close to my house.

Sonny Bryant's BBQ - Dallas Texas
The only problem is that you can't get tri-tip around here, its all brisket.

The question isn't sweet or salty, its wet or dry rub and for me, its dry rub pork spare ribs.

They have a "No Tie" policy, and I made the mistake of going there once with a tie. Someone came to me with scissors and cut it off. It was my favorite tie too I think its still hanging from the rafters to this day.

There is a place like that in San Diego called "Pinnacle Peaks".... same concept - mesquite pit, no ties, and all.

As for the best BBQ?

Phil's BBQ in San Diego.... people from LA routinely come to san diego to get it and the lines are non-stop. I have traveled all over the country (Memphis, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas) and I can tell you that this is just as good, if not better BBQ than any I have ever had. There are many different styles of BBQ, it's all misquite grilled (not smoked) and the sauce is a bit tangy/sweet (not that thick).... it's just darn good.

here's the link - http://www.philsbbq.net/

BTW, also one of the best hamburgers I have ever had (and yes, I have been to Father's Office)

Joey's is actually pretty good. I've only eaten there a few times, but the burgers I've had are pretty good. I'm sure the BBQ is just as good too.

Too bad it's owned by Luke.

seriously, is it any good for bbq? i live like 1-2 miles from it but never went because it's been getting so-so reviews. there's a place called chicago bbq or something i went to once that's decent but pretty expensive for what you get. there's also a place called lucille's smokehouse bbq in torrance that's also a bit pricey but good. i like bbq and there isn't really much else around manhattan beach... let me know if you guys know of anything near me worth checking out!

i have to agree with OP about rattler's. i went there a few times when i was working in that area. damn good for the price (and in general). if it was near where i live, i'd go there at least a few times per month.

I can't comment on the BBQ because the only times I've been there I've gotten a burger, but I was pretty satisfied with what I got so I imagine the BBQ is good too. The food is reasonably priced too. A pretty big burger and fries for $9. I like the "Luke Walton"; it has spicy peppers and spicy jack cheese.

Lucille's IS a great place but I agree that it's real pricey, so it's all dependent on how much you're looking to spend. Their pork ribs are like $25 and beef ribs are like $30.

Lucille's is way too expensive for what it is. I've eaten there once and while some of it is very good, some of it is also very mediocre. A few of the sides that come with your entree are down right awful. Definitely not a stop I'm willing to make again.
