lets try to keep this away from a ucla vs. sc thing.
heres my opinion
potential
young > afflalo
Young seems like he has a higher ceiling as an nba player.
athletism
young > afflalo
Young has longer arms and can get up higher. Afflalo is a lot stronger and his quickness is underrated.
shooter
afflalo > young
Both can shoot but give the edge to AA
Defense
afflalo > young
AA guards the other teams #1 guy and takes pride in his D. Young seems lazy at times.
clutch
afflalo > young
AA has hit a lot of big shots in his career.
work ethic
afflalo > young
AA has a great work ethic and plays hard every game
intangibles
afflalo > young
AA is a life long laker fan. wears #4 because of B.Scott. His fav player is kobe and patterns his game after his despite his physical limitations. You can see it in his moves. Plays hard on D is and is also a competitor.
AA is a class act. Picking up a crying morrison.
Instant chemistry with Farmar on the 2nd unit.
so in my opinion young has more draft value but AA is a better fit with the lakers. |

USC v UCLA (Game 1):
Young: 14 points, 6 rebounds (6-14 shooting)
Afflalo: 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists (5-13 shooting)
USC v UCLA (Game 2):
Young: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists (9-12 shooting, 0 free throws for a guy who takes it to the basket ... USC got jobbed this game)
Afflalo: 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist (3-11 shooting, 9-10 free throws)
Overall, Young is a much more talented basketball player. He's better offensively, while Afflalo is slightly better defensively. Young will be very solid in the NBA his rookie year. The Lakers would probably have to wait a few years for Afflalo. |

Marcus Williams!!!
He is 6'7" and has really long arms- he can guard muliple postions on the floor and he is a very good defender, from Draftexpress.com:
Williams is a very versatile defender, as his length and lateral quickness allow him to guard pretty much any position on the floor, and his aggressiveness and solid understanding of fundamentals help him out here as well.
and:
Defensively, despite spending the bulk of his minutes matched against players with point guard quickness, Williams did an admirable job containing the ‘Nova guards. What he lacked in quickness he compensated for with length and intelligence, doing well to stay in front of whomever he was assigned to. Even when he lost his man, he could use his wingspan to poke the ball away from behind. He also managed to get his hands on a lot of passes and loose balls over the course of the game. Early in the second half, Williams was getting assigned to whichever guard was hottest, at one point shutting down Villanova guard Randy Foye for a few consecutive plays.

Not a Nick Young fan. Not really an Afflalo fan, but if I have to choose, I dislike him less than I do Nick Young.

I'm thinking Young is a late teens early 20s pick.
Afflalo is late 1st round to early 2nd.
When Young's shot is off, he can do other things on the floor.
When Afflalo's shot is off, he has trouble creating things for other teammates, getting to the basket, drawing contact, etc.
That'll make him a jumpshooter/defender at the next level. Raja Bell is a fair comparison and it's no wonder why Bell didn't get drafted during his era.

Good comparison, somewhat. And the Lakers could really use a Raja Bell right now (minus the whiny attitude).
Affallo is a better ball handler, finisher and passer though. I'm pretty confident his game will translate well in teh NBA, he will be a great roleplayer. If he goes late first/early 2nd, thats a steal. |

Oh man I wish he would stay for his senior year.  The Lakers need D. They have enough O. Why not take him when players willing to play defense before offense are so rare. |

Sorry gsrbruin, I have to disagree with you on some of your points.
Shooter
Young>Afflalo - Young have a much better midrange game than Affalo.
Clutch
Young>Afflalo - Afflalo hit some big shot like the one that beat the
Trojans in the first game at the Galen Center, but Nick Young hit some game tying and shot that took the lead for the
Trojans.
The Lakers need to take some athletic hard nose players that you can go to war with instead of soft candy asses instead of players that fit. I would love Afflalos defense but he probably won't get to play that way in the NBA because of all the ticky tak fouls called now. |

but is it came down to these two - young is the better prospect imo, the plus with aflallo is that he provides a long term cheap back up for kobe, and we'll be able to use mo evan's expiring deal as part of a future trade.
but straight up - nick young. |
