first of all - make no mistake about it - odom has been huge for us, has played very well, and is a very valuable member of this team.
so why bring this up ?
two things have me intrigued -
1. we seem to be doing pretty well offensively without odom
2. ak47 is having a bad year and has his issues fitting in offensively with the jazz.
i think that right now odom's value even eclipses kirilenko's.
but thing is, if we're doing so well offensively, how would we do if we traded odom for kirilenko and a 1st rd pick (i think we should be compensated in such a swap).
the offense shouldn't be worse than it is right now - already running without lamar, the defense - our weak link, would be vastly improved, and we'll get another pick in a very strong draft.
kirilenko has already shown he can play very well - defend and rebound as a pf - actually made the all star team as a pf.
taking nothing away from what odom means to this team, isn't it a thought that's worth entertaining ?
jazz would be all over it i'm sure. |

no way.. ODOM is the missing piece.. do you have any idea how much better we are going to be with odom.. name me one player that we could realisticly add that would improve this team more than odom's return will? _________________ “What is 17,505”

This is why LG has this type of reputation.
You can GUARANTEE an insane thread after each game, win or loss. |

Seriously, why? Making a trade just for the sake of making a trade is pointless.
Utah is a good team, almost certainly a top 4 seed, so their pick will be late in the draft.
Lamar is so, so valuable to the Lakers. Just think of how great the team will be once he returns.
AK is selfish. He sulks and plays poorly when he feels that he isn't getting as many touches as he should be. He lives and plays for the stats. I remember his first career triple double - he passed the ball to a teammate and screamed shoot, caring only for the stat. I don't think we need guys like that on our team.
Last, but not least, we're winning. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Lamar was having an All Star year before he went down. The Lakers have played fairly well without him - they'll only play better with him. _________________ Jeffs

well i don't remember saying that but it's true...i don't.
the dallas mavericks are better than the phoenix suns. they play both sides of the ball and have a better coach. to beat the suns all you have to do is slow the game down. the lakers know how to do this which is why we've beate them this year.
fact is...as great as we're playing right now...that's WITHOUT ODOM. imagine what happens when odom comes back. you still have the deep bench, you have the confidence boosted of every player from getting their playing time, AND you gain a lethal player. why would you trade that away for somebody who can't stay on the floor due to injury? why would you trade a guy who dominated in the playoffs last year against the very team you falsely claim to be the best in the league?
it just doesn't make sense if you're looking out for the lakers best interests. have you forgotten how odom played before he got injured? _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Anybody who still thinks that building a team under Jax, and his sytem is nothing more than a componet set that you can just buy compatible pieces for every few minutes will work is yes...
A person who still doesn't get it...
With LO, and Kwame non stop that record is easily at minimum 28 wins... There is a difference between surviving while a player is out vs dominating...
The Lakers have become a strong cohesive unit... You don't rock the boat just to please the fanstasy team people... It won't happen.
Lakers are on there way this year to the western conferance finals, without Ak47, without Garnett, and without Melvin Ely. _________________ "According to ESPN.com's conference projections, the Lakers will finish 12th in the West, which prompted Bryant to tweet earlier this offseason, "12th I see.."

Ocho/Shoes - Don't bother. You are dealing with the biggest armchair GM in the history of Laker message boards.

terrible, TERRIBLe idea...not to be disrespectful, but it completely insane to even consider it at this point. If Odom were not on our team, he would be the exact kind of player I would want to trade for.
We will be unbelievable once he gets back. I get giddy just thinking about it. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

For whatever reason, AK has not been the player he is capable of being. I wouldn't give up a talent like Odom on a gamble.
And I agree with Ocho about the Mavs. It's the same argument that people use to argue that Kobe is better than Wade, Lebron, Carter, T-Mac, Pierce, etc.; basketball is played on 2 ends of the court. |
