not sure if a topic has been started about this film yet but it's really a great one.

make sure you catch it while it is in theatres. it's one of the best of the year.

Thx, you guys have proven pretty reliable. I was wondering about that one, guess I'll check it out.

definitely don't wait for video.

this is a film that demands you see it in a theatre. one of the sequences in the film is one of the best filmed sequences i can remember in years. you'll know it when you see it. alfonso cuaron is one of the best filmmakers working today.

here's a little insight to how they pulled it off. pretty remarkable.

”With just three weeks before filming of [Children of Men’s] four-day sequence was to start, Emmanuel Lubezki called Doggicam Systems’ Gary Thieltges, a Los Angeles-based camera-rig guru. They removed the car roof and installed a rail system that allowed the camera to operate on a two-axis grid, controlled by a joystick. Lubezki, his focus puller and a dolly grip sat above the actors in an enclosed translucent loft. The car seats were modified so the actors could use levers to tilt and lower themselves out of the camera’s path as it zoomed in and out.” — from Sheigh Crabtree’s 12.29 L.A. Times piece.

Completely agree with Ocho...that was a great movie. Couldn't wait to see it, went last week. It did not disappoint. Wouldn't mind seeing it again.

i thought i'd add this to this thread instead of starting a new one but...

please also go see Pan's Labyrinth.

movies like this just don't get seen. they dont' get marketing. they don't get released on enough screens. it's a phenomenal film. it's been called a fantasy film for adults and that's true but it's a lot more. do NOT bring your kids. it's a rough movie. very graphic at times. however it is amazing how it balances a real life war film with fantasy elements. run to your theatre.

Pan's Labrynth is great also. My favorite movie so far this year (I know it's early). Very adult though, so like Ocho said don't bring your kids.

Saw it a few weeks ago. I agree wholeheartedly. Great film. Very visceral and powerful.

Saw it a few weeks ago as well. From a filmmaking standpoint I thought it was well done, I just wasnt sold on the characters per say. It set up some interesting people but eventually just became an action movie, IMO. Overall I enjoyed it though.

agree 100%

The best "atmosphere" in a movie I have ever seen. Really outstanding
but I wanted a couple of questions answered, such as why she was able to have a baby. That would have made the movie even more interesting to me.

the questions like "why are women infertile", "what exactly is "the human project" and "why is she able to have a baby" are really inconsequential to the film. the metaphor expressed by that plot is delivered skillfully and powerfully, and imo answers to those questions would be distracting and unnecessary.

There are three Mexican directors who are all friends and have turned out amazing films in the past month: Babel, Children of Men and Pan's Labrynth. Pan's Labrynth is the best in terms of it's skillfull use of special effects. Children of Men has the best action and camera work. Babel has the best acting. All three have solid, relevant scripts and deserve to be seen. Pan's Labrynth, it should be noted, is in Spanish with English subtitles. Some people don't like reading subtitles. If you're one of them, you should probably go for one of the other two.

I was dying to see this movie from the moment I saw the trailer...overall it was an ok movie (b). It had so much potential but it sucks because:

1) WORST ENDING (AND INTO FOR THAT MATTER) IN THE HISTORY OF FILM

2) LEAVES YOU HANGING, AGAIN WORST ENDING EVER...PPL YELLED "WTF" "OMG THAT BETTER NOT BE THE ENDING"
