Radman/Farmar + expiring contracts of Mihm/McKie/Williams works.

Kidd/Smush
Kobe/Sasha
Walton/Evans
Odom/Turiaf
Bynum/Kwame

Nah, I'm happy with what we got.

I guess everyone forgets how much wood Phil has for Kidd.

Kobe for Kidd/Marion anyone?

Kidd can play on and off the ball. He even does that in New Jersey. And Kidd is quick to pass. This isn't Marbury where he's tatooing the ball onto the court.

But you guys know best of course....

We won't be contender status until we get to the WCF again. Getting bounced in the 1st round won't cut it as "contender".

Last week it was Webber that was the missing piece now its Kidd.... At least its a different way of looking at our problems. PG or PF ! hmmmm

Wait till next week when Kidd gets traded to some other team and Vince becomes available!

Can you say solid 2nd option? And Imagine Kobe vs Vince in practice having their own private dunk contest!

We are contender status simply because of nothing else but our record. Then if you add the other subjective factors, I think that adds some proof. Seems the media is jumping on our bandwagon more and more too.

I would say any team which has the top 3/4 record in the league is at contender status.

Does that mean we will win the championship? No. Does that mean we will "realistically contend" for it? Yes.

Maybe its just an argument on how we each define "contender."

Jeez, can't we just enjoy out team the way it is? We are winning for petey's sake!! Why would we want to mess with any of our players (including those playing hurt like Rad?)....

Shoot if we are going to get Kidd, lets just go the whole way and trade Kobe for Kidd and VC!!!!

aww, someone is sentimental...but true, we should and I think do appreciate them.

Its just fun to speculate and see where we can improve. At least we are limiting ourselves to a piece or two, not an overhaul like most other teams in the league.

Regular season record means nothing. The playoffs is where you show if you're a contender and the Lakers have yet to show they are a contender, especially after choking a 3-1 lead.

Two elite years is all we need from him.

3. Kidd makes way too much money. A high 8-figure contract vs a low 6-figure contract for Smush. Farmar makes more than Smush. Anyway, let's love Smush Parker people, the reaper ain't finished yet.

Kidd makes alot of money, but he makes alot and Smush doesn't for a reason.

When has Kidd ever shown he can't be a triangle point. Phil and Tex think he can.

To trade Kwame for him to make the salaries work would leave us with Bynum and Turiaf in the middle, which at this point in time, is not enough to compete in the West. This trade will never happen.

Kwame is gone after next year anyway. But you are 100% correct, this trade will never happen.

I could see making a move for Vince- I have read rumors that the Lakers would like to have vince in P&G, but not Kidd.

Pre-microfracture surgery, sure trade for Kidd, but he and his contract are damaged goods now.

Now a Kobe & Carter back court with LO initiating offense from the SF or PF spot!!! That would kick some arse!

If record means nothing, then no one is truly a contender. It is the only objective variable available.

The fact we got to a 3-1 lead shows we are a contender. The fact we lost a 3-1 lead only means we choked (Smush Parker...had to thrown that in).

Hmm? I take it someone doesn't remember Ron Harper pre-Laker days, do they?

Harper was NEVER a ball-dominant PG, in fact, he was never a PG until MJ came back and Phil moved him to PG. Also, Harp had a jumper...MUCH better than Kidd.

Dude, nothing you just typed makes ANY sense.

You can't say the ONLY variable available is the regular season when you have the previous playoffs to go on.

And getting to a 3-1 lead doesn't mean jack. Ask Tmac. ...Were his Magic contenders back when they went up 3-1 to the Pistons? Nope.

Taking a "lead" in a 1st round playoff series DOES NOT make you a contender, especially if you can't close the deal.
