Starting on Sunday (1/7), I sporadically get the following error message:

Quote:
Invalid Session. Please resubmit the form.

It's happening on two different computers on two different networks/ISPs. And on both Windows XP and Mac OSX.

We've noticed it too, but I don't know the cause. We've found that doing "Preview" before submit seems to work, so that's a viable workaround until we get it fixed.

I imagine a server reboot will likely take care of it, but I can't do one of those.

every time I post FWIW.

However I have to say that even after the win last night, I was able to log on with ease.

So that is a good thing.

I'm getting it too, but I also noticed something else before it started happening. I can't remember the exact timeframe, but at one point I tried getting to the forums page and was getting a strange message:
"Make sure the install/ and contrib/ folders have been deleted"

That's a message that commonly pops up after an upgrade to the phpBB software, so maybe the upgrade is part of what's causing of the weird session errors.

This is the message I've gotten, "Invalid Session. Please resubmit the form."

If you hit submit again or use preview and then submit it works.

Mods...

Description: Information on phpBB's sessions and on why invalid_session errors may occur, and how to fix them.
Quote:
The problem with using just a session_id is that it becomes very easy to hijack (takeover) a session. All a user need do is obtain the session_id and add it to the url as they browse the board. If the id they grab happens to be a logged in admin or moderator ... well you get the picture.

Yup. I get it too. I just hit preview before submitting and it goes through.

Mods., you might want to sticky this in the lounge, in case people aren't checking this forum (or maybe when you guys find a fix).

Yeah, but that really doesn't seem to fit the observed effects here. For one, the problem seems universal, or nearly so. Two, if it was session ID hijacking, it'd also affect posting via Preview, but that consistently works for everybody here.

Just another observation...
The problem seems to be with the viewtopic.php script. When posting a reply from the dedicated reply posting page (posting.php) the error doesn't come up, but doing a quick reply from a topic (bottom of viewtopic.php when logged in) is where the error happens. That's why previewing or submitting twice works because the preview and session error both end up dumping you to posting.php. Must be some difference in how session id's are handled in the two scripts.

Sorry to bring bad news, but I just started seeing it this morning. I'm using FireFox 1.5.10, although I doubt it's a browser issue (?)

Same thing corrects it, i.e. Preview or slick Submit a second time.
