This is an absolutely huge loss in the music world.

Even though he was in his early 70's, the energy he brought every night was still incredible.

I never got to see him live on stage, which really bums me out.

Rest in peace, Godfather.

James Brown was a gift to the world. He was an original who led to many imitations. It's a sad ending on Christmas, but he has left us the gift of his legacy. His life won't be defined by his humble beginnings, or his stumbles at times, but by his great influence on generations of musicians. He was a human being who made his share of mistakes, but only his greatness remains. He will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. My prayers are for his family and friends, who have sufferred such a great loss.

I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri whose Municipal Auditorium was full every annual performance JB played in the late 50's to mid 60's. I am sure I saw at least 10 shows back then. Before strobe lights and all the theater that surrounds so many rock acts, and I’ve been to 100's since, his show was the best I ever saw. You could not take your eye’s off him when he was on stage. Sad to say his personal life was not as stellar as his music, but lets let that be for now.

RIP, JB.

Maybe Eddie Murphy can come out and do one last impression ("Gonna get in the hot tub! Is it gonna make me sweat?"), and then fade back into the shadows again.

Damn that voice. Mofo is screeching like a cat, but damn it's funky. Watch Maceo Parker and JB tear (bleep) up and the end of the clip damnit. Hypno-funk. Nobody funkier.
