You cant be done downloading yet, it'll take at least a few hours. You are trying to play the torrent. That is unplayable in a media player. You need a torrent client to open the torrent, and the client will do the rest.

However, I still could not download the game. It says it is missing a jnlp extension or something.

Can someone help with this?

you would probably be better served asking that question in the utorrent forum because it seems like a java error.

okay. I downloaded a torrent and have instead of opening your uploaded game file, I saved it to my desktop and now am using the torrent to "open" the file.

I am about 29% done.

Its actually pissing me off, cause i could have been close to done by now.

i was getting about 130kb/sec download, which is typical....but it went down to 0.2kb/sec and now it is hovering at 11.0kb/sec

significantly worse than it was before or it should be and I have no idea why!

Well come on now. it aint that bad.

out of 8 games so far this season, six have been on tv.

If you have:

Sportsnet West
Sportsnet Pacific
Raptors NBA TV
TheScore
ABC
TSN

You will get about 60 of the 82 games this season.

The problem is obviously the other 20. 60 JUST WONT DO for us addicted Laker and Kobe Maniac who stay up till 2am till the games are over.

People, you seriously need to understand a bit more how bittorrent works. First of all there's the initial seeder, just one person with a full copy. All the others are leechers. Since the upload speed of the leecher is, normally, limited, the first minutes start slow for the initial leechers. After a while they already received a little bit of the file and they too are able to upload to the others, who don't have the bits they already have. And so on, and so forth.

After some time, say there's already half of the file uploaded to several leechers. If you happen to have all that has been seeded, of course the speed will start to drop a lot. You already have the bits all the others have and now you must wait for the seeder to keep on seeding, bit by bit, until several leechers have the full file. When this happens they too become seeders and will only upload.

If, on the other hand, the file is not yet fully seeded to others but, say, 60% is already evenly spreaded and you happen to start downloading now, your download speed, if there are a lot of people on the "swarm", will probably be great. But it might drop if you start downlading a lot and eventually reach the maximum that has been seeded until that point (maybe 75% on that moment). Then the speed will drop.

For example, right now, more than half of the leechers are at 66 or 65%. This means that those are downloading slowly. The ones with less than that are probably downloading pretty fast. So patience, my friends and remember: it's free!

An important rule: if your download finishes, don't stop the torrent! Leave it running until you've, at least uploaded as much as you've downloaded. Otherwise the torrent will die pretty quickly and others will be unable to get the file.

Maybe our seeder extraordinaire, kobekillinu2nite, can take this text or parts of it, maybe edit it, create a little FAQ and place it, together with some other much asked infos (e.g. how to download the file: use utorrent), on every announcement post he makes. Might save having to answer the same things time and time again.

By the way, kobekillinu2nite, to make really "professional" posts, start posting the resolution, bitrate, codecs used and running time. Quite easy to do and gives information that most people like to see.

Oh and thanks and keep up the good work!

One question, by the way: these last games are 4:3. Why is that? The broadcasters don't broadcast it in 16:9? And is it HDTV or SD (Standard definition)? I think the first games were in 16:9, that's why I'm asking.

LOL, just got back home from work, and speed should be up now, I was uploading slow cuz i had a movie i was uploading also, and i didnt know it. Stopped the other so game should upload quicker

Also, due to the break between the next game, i will be uploading some vintage Laker games this week.

To answer John O, the aspect ratios are different between regular broadcasts and HD ones. When it is an HD broadcast, its in 16:9, but when regular, its 4:3.

Okay, so I finished downloading the file using my torrent application program.

Now, how do I actually start viewing it.
