The funny thing about that list is that it isn't so much a reflection of sports as it is a reflection of the Sports Guy and him coming to terms with getting older. The comment about Andy Roddick is telling. Did you think Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras would play forever? Sports and their stars are fluid. They aren't captured in time except in our minds and on decaying recordings or yellowing photographs. Your daughter is going to be in school, a teenager, and probably married someday, Bill. I know it's a tough pill to swallow.
Celtics, Knicks, and Raiders: which one of these has been depressing for 20 years? The Knicks made the Finals twice during the 90s and were perennial contenders. Early in this decade, the Raiders were very good, played in 3 straight AFC Championship games, and even made the Super Bowl once. The Celtics...well, they've missed the playoffs entirely in 8 of the last 14 years and have been bounced in the first round 4 times in the 6 years they've managed to get in. I'd say they win the Most Depressing contest.
