Well, I just went and saw the Borat movie. It was ok...a lot like watching a 90 minute version of his TV show. His TV show makes me laugh, so did the movie. I give it a "B".

I heard someone say that Sasha Cohen (the guy who plays Borat) is a modern day version of Andy Kaufman. Interesting comparison. In a lot of ways, I have to agree. What is funny about Borat isn't so much what he says, but how people react to what he says and does. A lot like Kaufman IMO.

The box office gross this weekend is insane. It's gonna open #1 on just 800 screens; the expected #1 & #2 (kids movies) opened on over 3200 screens each. This movie will end up one of the most profitable releases of 2006 (it will have made it's budget back by tonight)...

Boratmania!

I watched a DVD of Borat (bro told me to watch it)....i got bored of it so fast....the over the top shenanigans got old really fast. The movie, I may consider watching tomorrow....but it seems like I'll get bored of it after 20 minutes and the rest of the movie will seem to repeat itself.....am I wrong?

I saw it twice over the weekend. I had trouble hearing a lot of the movie the first time because the sound system in the theater was crap, as well as people were just continuoisly dying laughing. Probably will go see it again before I buy the dvd when it comes out. The yard sale scene with that lady with nice knockers was hilarious. And when he turned on the ice cream truck tune and the kids ran toward the truck......I about died laughing so hard.

Early numbers on the box office are insane indeed. So far it's made over $26 mil and the budget was $18 mil. And I am sure it will at least double that number once they learn the worldwide numbers.

I can't find it funny. I don't think Sasha Cohen is funny at all. He was embarrassing in Talladega Nights.

It's funny, one of Robin Williams earlier movie efforts was Moscow on the Hudson. His character, Vladimir Ivanoff was a Russian immigrant adapting to American culture. The fish out of water movie always seems to find an audience.

Across the World

An enormous debut in the United Kingdom propelled Borat to the top of the foreign box office over the weekend. Sacha Baron Cohen's mockumentary opened to $18.6 million from just 993 screens, ranking first in 11 of its 17 markets. The U.K. alone accounted for $11.8 million from 427 screens, more than doubling the start of Cohen's previous vehicle, Ali G Indahouse.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan also posted strong grosses in Sweden ($716,749 from 39 screens), the Netherlands ($731,401 from 64) and Denmark ($365,905 from 36). In Germany, it settled for second place with a still impressive $2.6 million from 234 screens.

Breakdown

Worldwide: $44,205,463

Cry me a river, rednecks

"Two unsuspecting fraternity boys want to make lawsuit against "Borat" over their drunken appearance in the hit movie.

The legal action filed Thursday on their behalf claims they were duped into appearing in the spoof documentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," in which they made racist and sexist comments on camera."
