As someone on Televisionwithoutpity.com wrote:

Quote:
You know, when I talk about BSG to people who haven't seen it, I try to emphasize the quality of the drama, the character interaction, the questions about the nature of humanity, etc. And this episode was chock full of that stuff. Gaeta and Baltar and Starbuck and Tigh and...

...but at heart, I'm a geek.

Adama jumped the entire <bleep>ing Battlestar into atmosphere.

What? What? Who does that?

I'm fairly certain that voids the hell out of the warranty. I'm fairly certain there's little red and yellow stickers on the underside of Galactica that say:

"Warning, Do Not Plow Into Some Planet's Unsuspecting Stratosphere Like The World's Grimmest And Most Heavily Armored Fat Kid Jumping Into A Pool Full Of People He Hates Screaming Cannonball With A Grenade In His Teeth, Yeah, We're Talking To You Adama, 'Cause Jesus Christ."

If I'm a Humlon, and I look out of the window of my compound and see this... psychotic act of badassery, in my heart I know we're just never going to subjugate or defeat these people.

Spectacle, sacrifice, suspense. Now THAT'S good television.

Yeah.... it was definately a gripping episode (though most of them are). This one was a step above.

That was a pretty hardcore move by Adama jumping into the atmosphere. Then launching the fighters while in full burn!? (bleep)!

Tigh and his wife!? Oh my! I've always hated Ellen... but I felt sorry for her, this season. It was apparent she really did love the old cuss.

Starbuck and Kacey!? Man... that one hit me like a baseball bat upside the head. Kara is gonna be (bleep) in the head for a while. Of course, so will Tigh.

This is going to be a very hardcore season. The Cylons royally messed with some psyches. I'm loving it. The BEST hour of television, hands down.

You just knew Apollo wasn't going to stand by and let his old man die. I loved when Pegasus jumped in guns blazing.

The jump into atmosphere was the coolest thing I have ever seen in any show or movie.

These cyclons are really into playing head games

Tigh's wive turned it around this season, until now she was like the chick from An Officer and a Gentlemen that just wanted to marry an aviator

I almost thought Starbuck caved in...almost

Galactica plowing thru the atmosphere in flames, rocked

Pegasus with all forward batteries firing, rocked

Did I mention this show rocks?

Wonder if Roslin and Zarek will be on the same side now?

Wonder if we will see Baltar sitting on the thrown in a Basestar any time soon?

This episode seemed a bit predictable, but was done so well I just didn't care.

Tigh is gonna be one bad mofo this year. Does he give a (bleep) about anything now? His whole reason for living recently was to free the humans. Now that that's happened, he's lost an eye and a wife and was pretty close to the deep end as it was. My guess is he's well beyond the deep end now.

Watching Adama and his skeleton crew of like 3 people on the bridge of the BSG was awesome. And yeah, the launch of the raptors at full burn was just incredible.

This season is definitely shaping up to be absolutely amazing.

Man, I know they blew their budget wad in this last episode! The effects were great!! One of things I like about the program is that the characters are constantly changing and growing! One of the best TV programs around.

Do you guys dress up to watch the show? Damn, as nerdy as this thread makes you guys look (and you HAVE to admit that it does ,) you guys got me interested. I'm setting my TiVo now.

I mean no offense by the nerd comment. This is coming from a guy who spent his grade school recesses playing with his Rubik's Snake. Bobsled, anybody? How about the canoe?

Dude. Rubik's snake? That's all sorts of bad imagery .

Yeah, it's nerdy, but it's damn cool nerdiness. Definitely watch the show. By the end you'll be wearing a cylon outfit calling your girlfriend "Boomer".

Best way to do it is definitely Netflix the original mini-series, then work your way through the DVD's season by season, but I think it's possible to step in now and understand what's going on. You can always geek out a little by reading up on what's happened so far on the many BSG web sites out there.

You'll probably be lost in the character development. All of the characters have changed/grown for better and worse, since the 1st season.

Check Bittorrent... you can download the 1st two seasons. I d/l'd the 1st season about a month ago. I only downloaded it all, because I wanted the 3 hour "mini-series", which I never saw.

A little breakdown on the characters:

Adama - Not the leader of the survivors, just the head of the military.

Roslin - New character. President by attrition. She was in education, was something like 40th in the line to replace the president, but everyone ahead of her got nuked.

Lee "Apollo" Adama - Suffers from a severe case of my daddy loved my dead brother more than me complex

Starbuck - Think Maverick from TopGun. Has a history with the Adama family. Adama likes her and cuts her some slack. Hates Tigh.

Tigh - Alcoholic second in command. Served with Adama forever so Adama cuts him some slack. Hates Starbuck.

Baltar - Rock star famous computer wiz, cylons use an uber-sexy shebot to get into his head and get access to the defense network, which allows them to blow the frack out of the colonies. They really are constantly messing with his head. He can see, touch and interact with 'number seven' even thought she is not really there. Makes for some interesting scenes to say the least.

Cylons - The metal 'toasters' are still around but the cylons have evolved over the past 40 years to human form (12 models). Kill them and their conscious is downloaded into a new body. Some of the human models don't know they are in fact Cylons.

Where the humans believe in 'the Gods' the Cylons believe in one God.

I have left some characters out in case you watch from the beginning.

I know, so much has changed it is tempting to post it all.

I just put up the reset since we learn that right at the beginning.

Saw the repeat again alst night. Again, WOW.

And to think, Ellen Tigh is played by none other than Kate Vernon, the snotty, b****y blonde nemesis of Molly Ringwald and pseudo-girlfriend of James Spader in "Pretty in Pink."

One thing I will say. This show isn't really your typical scifi outer space show. If you go into it expecting raptor fights every episode you will be let down.

One of my favorite dialogue exchanges EVER:

Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (bitterly): Poor Lee, life has just been so hard for you.

Lee "Apollo" Adama (more bitterly): Yeah, right after you shot me.
