I think we can all agree a few years ago that the top five in the league was

Shaquille, Duncan, KG, McGrady and Kobe (in no particular order) .....

With McGrady's Back problems and Shaquille getting a little older, does Dirk get into the top 5 category. If those two (Shaquille and McGrady) are out, (LeBron is likely to have one of those spots) does Dirk get the other? He's already top 10 easily but after this year and his performance in the playoffs, does he make that jump?

And who is your top 5, in no particular order .....

a "healthy, in shape and motivated" Shaquille
Kobe
KG
LeBron
Duncan

I thik Dirk might be 6 or 7 in my book.

If his post game improves, he is the number one PF in the game. Top 5 player? I don't know about that one. You're right though, he is top 10 right now.

Top 5

Kobe
Duncan
KG
Lebron
Dirk

The dude is sick, he is better than Wade and all those other punks. Lebron is in limbo because I still think he is overrated, but his stats are enough to convince me to put him there.

Hmm... D Wade Vs Dirk... that's a tough one... both had good seasons... both are playing out of there mind in the playsoffs...

Also,.. I think if you put an aging Duncan on the list,.. you have to list Snaq (I hate Snaq,.. but repsect his game)...

1. Kobe
2. Lebron
3. Duncan
4. Dirk
5. Wade

KG, Shaq, T-mac, Iverson would normally be in the top 5 but they all had subpar seasons, with the exception of Iverson.

Dirk is a sick baller...he just elevated his game this year...he definitely is deserving of some MVP votes. Hes in my top 5 for sure.

I dont think Dirk is a top 5 player in the NBA, BUT he is a top 10 player, more of a number 6 or 7... I like madsen35's list above, but I would drop dirk and insert Nash!!! Im not a hater, Im a basketball fan... Im still amazed that Wade was able to carry shaqs fat ass this far!!

He's been one for a while now. It's just no one wanted to admit he'd passed Duncan and KG up.

after last night's game, I'm gonna say yeah. I've never seen Dirk have that, "I'm going to do whatever it takes to win THIS game" mentality.

kobe/lebron at 1/2 are a no brainer.

3-5 actually gets a little dicey...

duncan/shaq are aging/injured but they're still as effective as *healthy* players who play their respective positions.

i give up

I don't think so. Put Dirk on most teams and he wouldn't be able to carry them. I think the Mavs team is stacked with talent which hides Dirk's real weakness, his D. Top 5 players SHOULDN'T have such glaring weakness in his game.

I think this statement is the real arugment. Has Dirk either replaced KG or Duncan as the number one power forward in the league. KG is a tweener (SF/PF) but I consider him a power forward.

KG: 21.8 points, 12.7 rebounds (led league), 4.1 assts., 1.4 stls, 1.4 blks

Duncan: 18.6 pts., 11 rebs., 3.2 assts., 0.9 stls., 2 blocks

Dirk: 26.6 pts. (only big man in top 10), 9 rebs., 2.8 assts., .7 stls., 1 blk.

It seems like KG had a down year but those are some damn good numbers. The media (experts) think Dirk has made that turn by voting him first team, which he deserves; but the media (experts) also had the Lakers not making the playoffs and San Antone winning it all.

Also take into consideration Duncan played with bad feet all year and no matter how good you are, if your feet and legs aren't healthy, your numbers will go down. He had great playoff numbers though.

I understand this argument, but age/wear and tear are part of the game. It's starting to catch up to him which is why his game is declining. If we're talking this season and not career, then I definitely put Dirk ahead of Duncan.

This is how I see it as well.

The Heat won't get past the Mavs.

Top 5

Kobe
LeBron
Duncan
Wade
Nowitski

Second 5

Nash
Billups
Iverson
Brand
Shaq

KG has not led his team anywhere in the past 2 years and has declined too much as a dominant force for me to put him in the top 10.

cant blame KG, blame management

if 21, 12 and 4 is a bad year, we need bad years from our squad.

He hasn't passed up those two. Put either KG or Duncan on his team and they sweep the playoffs.

I would rather have Dirk over KG at this point.

Duncan may be slightly more effective, but is close to unwatchable with his lack of personality and ridiculous "tim duncan face" on every whistle, the entire season.

Dirk is a bad bad man right now. He has been the best player overall in this year's playoffs in my opinion.

Dirk is so unique in the history of the NBA... You gotta rank guys like that highly.

My list right now:
Kobe - easy $$$

Lebron - also up here however I hate how BSPN is force feeding him... let his game speak for himself.

Dirk (never seen passion like this from him before... reminds me of KG's post season where they made the WCF - also to get his stats on a team with so much talent is almost better than a KG's with tons of crud around him... call it the "Mike James effect".)

Nash - I hate to do it... the wound is still sore... but no one has impressed me more this post season... No way would I have predicted this year for the Suns... I thought they'd have a Sonics type flame out... especially after the injury to A.S., no one in the league makes his teammates better than Nash and gets as much out of them... the best "force multiplier" in the league.

Duncan with a slight edge over KG... You can't discount being a winner... much like if Kobe wants to be the GOAT he needs to win a few more titles... Duncan has hardware and has stepped up large time and time again to be listed over "The Kid". KG... only has one solid post season... and even in that one... he didn't outplay Duncan. He just got to play the Lakers later on in it.
