No mention of Phil Handy though.

Should just be Vogel again once the Suns fire him. Or D'Antoni again.

Aside from exp, what would be the difference between Ham and Budenholzer?

If I’m Phil Handy why would I ever leave this situation anyways, even if not the head coach. Probably getting paid a ton, coaching the Lakers, living in Los Angeles.. no pressure.

Guy is a great development coach so hopefully the feeling is mutual and the Lakers keep him around until he no longer wants to be here, if ever.

I said in the Ham thread there's a high probability it will be Bud. Atkinson and JJ are ruled on the basis of not having championship experience.

What's the difference between Walton and Kerr? Lol.

Bud is far more successful than Ham. Said this elsewhere, but Bud is a great regular season coach. We need to win big in the regular season, get an easier first round matchup, develop guys like Christie, and play Bron and AD less minutes.

As for the postseason, the man has a title and made great adjustments in the Suns Finals series. He gets hated on because of the Raptors series in 2019 where he didnt adjust to the "wall" and the Bucks losses in 2022 and 2023. However, Middleton was out in 2022 and Giannis was hurt for a few games last year against Miam. Plus, Giannis is a guy who plays hot potato in the last minute because he doesnt want to shoot FTs. Bud will have more success with AD and Bron because he wont have Giannis' limitations.

Budenholzer took the Hawks from 38 to 60 wins and the ECF without adding any superstars.

He got the Bucks a title.

My mind is open, but at least he's a competent coach.

Budenholzer is a great coach, go look at his track record. You don't have that winning percentage for no reason. Also did a nice job with a limited Atl roster.

Lakers are too dumb to hire him, prob go after Reddick

Can you explain the obsession with Phil Handy? Why do so many want that guy?

I mentioned it in another thread, but I'll say it again: I'd love it if the Lakers hire Micah Nori.

Yup. Reddick will be the next Luke.

Who wouldn’t want a job where you’re given a flawed roster and it’s immediately leaked to the press that you’re the problem the minute things go south? Surely all the best candidates will be lining up to interview for this job, with the people who hired the apparently bad coaches making the selection.

Guaranteed the Lakers are praying Doc Rivers gets fired. That has to be the only idea they have. Atkinson i think is overrated but he’s not dumb enough to take this job. Reddick can’t burn his first coaching gig on a win-now team. Clippers are too smart to get Lue go. Budenholzer is the only possible hire with any intelligence to it and he’s at the point where he’ll be happy to get paid.

The Lakers have had six full-time head coaches since Phil Jackson. None of them have lasted more than three years.

8 coaches in 12 years. That should say it all. Not only do they have a high turnover rate with young talent and draft picks, but the coach is almost certain to be gone after 2 years. The way they did Vogel dirty is gonna turn off a lot of coaches. Money is important but so is job security.

Would Jeanie actually pay Lue $7-$8 million amount that he’s making with the Clippers?

While also paying Ham’s $5 million for the next 2 years?

If they are going to give Lebron and extension, I don't think they are worried about paying a coach.

Atkinson would. He's not turning down a life changing pay raise. He'll come out the other end a lot worse for wear but a whole lot richer.

I hear JJ say intelligent, insightful thoughts all the time.

Don't really remember Luke saying something and being particularly impressed.

I'm happy with Bud or JJ.

Don't really want Lue because I hope we eventually free ourselves from Bron.
