Rich Paul reportedly told other agents at the Chicago combine that LeBron and Anthony Davis will be moving to the 4 and 5 this season (

Goes along with what has been rumored all off season with Anthony Davis moving to the 5. Which makes sense given the makeup of the team and Dwight being better as a spark plug off the bench.

Westbrook/Nunn
Monk/Bazemore/Ellington
THT/Ariza
LeBron/Melo
Davis/Howard/DJ

^^^ If it's true about AD and LBJ, I think one switch in your proposed lineup is more likely: THT as the first SG off the bench and Bazemore as the starting SF.

That is where they should be playing. Unfortunately, AD is always going to be an injury concern. Frank needs to do a better job with load management (W-L's be damned). Our new athletic trainer will hopefully pay dividends.

I don't know why an agent tells other agents coaches decisions. As the Lakers organization I would have a serious talk with him.

i highly doubt AD starts full time at the 5. he'll get injured in no time. you want him at the 5 "when it counts".

Vogel has a job on his hands. AD's said in the past he doesn't want to play the 5. If he does next season it will attest to how much this team has bought into winning a ship at all costs.

He'll probably start at the 5 and play most minutes at the 4 and Bron at the 3. DH and DJ split minutes at the 5.

I think this is right. This also gives them room to potentially start Melo, which I can somehow see this team forcing even though it's the wrong move, especially after we saw them make similar poor starting decisions last year with Drummond.

I may be paddling this canoe alone. I think Vogel is the weakest link. I didn't like his lineups and rotations last season. He has a more difficult task this year. Used correctly this team has ship written all over it, roster and chemistry wise. I hope I'm wrong about Frank. I'll say it again, I want him to succeed, if he does, we will.

I mean...let's be real here: he almost is. We have been catering to Klutch since 2018.

Plus it's not like Frank Vogel is good with rotations anyway (see the 20-21 season). If anything, Lebron and Davis probably talked it over and decided to do this.

This is a player's league after all. If Lebron is the one that says "let's do this", then Vogel is the yes man at that point.

He's not but he would know more about that than Frank would. The two most important players on the roster is represented by him. Is frank gonna tell them no to this?

This is often repeated can anyone show an example or examples of his injuries being related to playing center?

I'm not sure I'm ready to believe an off hand comment at a combine as written in stone.

If AD says he's hoping to play more 5 this season I could start to believe it. Everything I've heard from AD is that he prefers 4 not 5. Does that mean Vogel or the Laker FO is deciding for AD that 5 is his future, and Rich Paul is merely passing along the Lakers' strategic plan in a casual conversation among other agents, scouts and team officials in Chicago? Possible I suppose. I think it's more likely he was talking out his ass and some reporter decided it's a scoop.

+1; space for one more on that canoe?

He'd tell other agents this because they might represent players who would be interested in joining the Lakers, and where LeBron and AD play the bulk of their minutes impacts the amount of playing time that would be available at the 3/4 spots.

Except this has never been a Vogel decision, it's always been a LeBron and AD decision... AD says he doesn't want to play the 5, so Vogel listens because it's way more advantageous to the org to keep AD happy rather than play him in a spot where he doesn't want to play.

I think everyone and their mother (including Vogel) knows that AD's best spot is the 5, so if he says he's ok playing there now then it's no secret that's what Vogel will do.

And this happened at the combine, which is before free agency. AD and Bron playing the 4/5 instead of the 3/4 has a significant impact on the decisions of other FA's...

I'm not a big Rich Paul guy by any means but I really don't understand why this seems so unreasonable to some of you lol

I'll Roll with Ariza at SF just for some size...

Westbrook
Bazemore
Ariza
Lebron
AD

That's good enough shooting and a lot of length and athleticism...

Yeah, it can safely seat 2, it ain't a kayak.

If AD plays the 5 it will be a multilateral decision, one he agrees to. Involved will be Westbrook and LeBron. The team will also be in on the conversation to a degree. When you have 3 superstars on your roster they just about have the last word.

This is by no means conclusive, but Dwight avg 15.7 minutes in the bubble playoffs. McGee avg 9.6. According to basketball-reference.com, Kieff played 33% of his 18.3 minutes per game at the center position (ie 6 minutes per game). So AD had to man the 5 spot on avg 1.5 - 2 quarters (18-24minutes) of a game during the bubble playoffs run.

Also consider, that within the bubble there was no travel and no back-to-backs, and all this occurred at the heels of a 4 month hiatus within the season.

AD seemed to get severely hurt in Game 4 of the WCF and Game 5 of the Finals. He ended up playing 40+ mins in those games.

https://youtu.be/6zTXO7h8PDw

https://youtu.be/pkVJBAQyQ20

Quote:
He closed out L.A.'s championship run with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 2 blocks in the clincher and now was limping around as if he had no business being on the court just hours before.

"Man, I'm hurting," said Davis, who was listed on the injury report with a right heel contusion but told ESPN he was also dealing with an undisclosed ankle injury that had required six hours of treatment on Sunday afternoon.

"My mindset is, 'It's the Finals. I got to do whatever I can to compete,'" he said. "There's no way in hell I wasn't playing in this game."

This doesn't make much sense.
AD doesn't want to play center.
Why spend all this time getting two centers?
And Melo the only PF backup. Who can guard the big PFs?
Lebron at PF will beat him up.
And there is no good SF backup also.

The Lakers are not staffing to meet this goal.
