Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook did their media availability following their first practice. Westbrook said it’s very exciting to put the theories that he, LeBron and AD talked about over the summer into practice. Figuring out how to best help one another builds day by day.

No starting lineups have been decided outside of LeBron, AD and Russ, said Frank Vogel. That will be determined as the days go on.

Frank Vogel said beyond LeBron, AD and Westbrook, the Lakers cycled through different looks with the other two lineup spots when considering starting units at L.A.’s first day of training camp.

Frank Vogel on what stood out about Russell Westbrook, in his first practice:

“It’s noticeable how different the speed looks … it’s really exciting. He’s just a blur out there. It’s something we’re all really excited about.”

Vogel added, about Westbrook: “He’s basically a paint-to-great factory.”

That’s Vogel’s favorite phrase for players getting into the opponent’s paint and collapsing the defense to create a great shot for a teammate.

Vogel said the Lakers played a lot of 5-on-5 today. They did some basic drill work, but wanted to get them out going full speed. He said it was a very competitive session.

Vogel says the team is coming back tonight for another practice session. System implementation no contact but full speed.

Man when I hear the interviews about the first practice I hear things like "competitiveness" and people love the competition and trash talking. Instant chemistry.

Vogel mentioned how players were not caught up in the schemes and played "free."

I get so much of the vibe from 2 years ago, the championship team.

First practice, but not first time on the floor together thanks to a great move by Captain James to bring all the players together in Vegas recently.

Kendrick Nunn has the potential to be a really important player for us. I have pretty high hopes for him.

In fact, my biggest concern with him is that we won't find enough playing time for him.

The video is just awesome what he says..Lebron talking so much his voice is "harsh"

The upset of players when they didn't score or make the right pass..just a major "care" factor that coach Vogel mentioned.

Its early but it just "feels" like this team has "it."

Was probably slow to the party, but the Carmelo signing has grown on me. I have more confidence in his ability to provide gravity and make big shots than any other role player on this team. We can harp on his defense but there are articles about Carmelo coming up big on D with Portland at certain times. If he isn’t part of our closers, then it means two other players are playing at a even higher level, and that is a very good thing.

DeAndre
AD
Bron
Westbrook
Nunn

That starting lineup has two players aged 26, 28. Three players still in their athletic primes (Westbrook, Nunn, AD). Nunn is more than a spot up shooter. Nunn/Westbrook can be give you some firepower at both guard spots instead of a typical catch and shoot role player (who can get useless if his 3 ball isn’t falling).
