Gasol/Dwight probably play a combined 24 minutes a game. The other 24 at center will go to AD.

Yea monk isn’t getting much unless he proves himself.

Idk about that. Haven't watched him live but his highlight reel is pretty crazy...

Also Dwight and Gasol 24 mins a game is way too high, more in the range of 12 mins combined with one of the two getting DNPs.

The spacing is poop with any lineup of the big 3 + gasol/dwight. AD has to start at the 5, or else what was the point of getting WB if not to give AD/Lbj a third playmaker to play at the 4/5 (per the rumor)?

Monk in actuality is a much better player than the worth of his vet min contract. He was projected to be worth around 8mill in free agency.

We seem deep Af. Everyone will get their opportunity to start and play ample minutes over the course of the season. I don’t see many clear starting options out of the guys we signed so far outside of Westbrook. Seems like the Idea may be depth to keep guys healthy during the regular season and figure out who’s who during the process.

I think we need another forward though.

The Lakers could not have made this much a investment in the guard position particularly with players who took less, not to move AD and Lebron as Bigs.
Going with trad positions....

PG: Westbrook Nunn
SG: Ellington Monk
SF: Baze/ THT (if THT shoots the 3ball well, he’ll start at the two)
PF: James Anthony Ariza
C: AD Howard Gasol

Starting
Westbrook

Start 2nd
Nunn

3rd sub:

I think Gasol has the chance to redeem himself and actually really shine this year. If he can make the corner or top key 3 then he will be pretty valuable as that opens the lane up for a lot of kick outs. Excited to see how he fits, could be a Brook Lopez type of player for us. He’s just really slow and we may be looking to push more with WB

Westbrook
Nunn
Monk
Lebron
Melo

I just want to see that during a game at some point. Would be pretty fun against a small 2nd unit on a bad team

With all the defensive liabilities on the roster, If you play AD a lot a C, he won't last long.

Gasol-16/Dwight-16/AD-16
AD-18/Melo-14/LeBron-16
LeBron-16/Ariza-16/Bazemore-16
Nunn-24/THT-8/Ellington or Monk-16
Westbrook-32/THT-16

11 man rotation in regular season with Monk and Ellington battling for that last spot. Will be important to keep minutes lower with an older group.

Hmm pretty clear that Malik Monk is slept on around here. Considering what he brings to the table, he is one of the biggest pickups for us this offseason. I fully expect him to start, if not right away, then pretty early in the season. I'm also a big proponent of starting AD at the 5. This is the lineup I would trout out there:

G: Westbrook
G: Monk
F: Bazemore
F: LeBron
C: AD

Lineup is definitely small but provides tons of offensive versatility. Everyone on the perimeter can switch and pick and roll defense will be pretty consistent and solid. The second string lineup will then be

G: Nunn
G: Ellington
F: THT
F: Carmelo
C: Dwight

Then have Gasol and Ariza as 3rd stringers

We will see how it plays out, but I doubt our only wing defender is going to be a third stringer. Monk IMO had one good year offensively, but hasn’t proved anything at all on the defensive side of the ball. He will have to do that to get in Vogel’s rotation.

It be interesting how Vogel distribute playing time with this bunch...

Nunn/Baze/Monk/Ellington/Ariza

I think this is our main rotation right now

Lebron/AD/Russ/Melo/THT/Dwight/Gasol

My prediction... I have Baze starting because of his Defense. He plays bigger than his size.

Starters: Russ/Baze/Lebron/AD/Gasol
2nd unit: Nunn/THT/Ariza/Melo/Dwight

That leaves Monk/Ellington for spot up minutes.

Hopefully Rob finds a way to offload Gasol.

I don't see a role for him here, I say give Dwight all his minutes.

No role for a stretch 5? When Russell Westbrook is our PG?

Call me crazy but...(waiting... )

It would seem odd for LeBron to really want to play with Melo, and then have Melo play only spot minutes off the bench (eg not much with LeBron).

)Unless the two of them are really looking forward to doing exactly that!)

So, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the starting lineup is

Westbrook
Ariza
Melo
LeBron
AD

This is a no brainer. We need to have a stretch 5 with Westbrook. AD is that player but we don’t want him to bang and get nick here and there for the regular season. We can’t start Dwight because he can’t stretch the floor. We need any of our big 3 to get into rhythm offensively to start with.

I don't see this happening but play along:

AD (32), Dwight (16)
LeBron (32), Melo (16)
Bazemore (20), THT (28)
Ellington (16), Monk (20), Nunn (10)
Westbrook (32), Nunn (16)

I've re-worked this several times and I just fail to see where Ariza gets minutes. The young guys will definitely be more useful in the regular season and they should be getting the bench mins. I guess if you bench Gasol and start AD at the 5 (which I disagree with), it opens up those minutes.

I think fans are severely underestimating the role Ariza will have to play on this team.

He's going to get minutes.

Mostly at the backup 3.

Folks are deluding themselves if they think THT can help handle the elite wings in this league.
