the inevitable happened. props to Hurkacz for never once celebrating while clearly dominating that last set.

This might be the end for Federer. We’ll see.

End of an era. Thought he was still the second best grass court player for this year. May have to reassess how good this Hurkacz is too. Younger players making a move finally?

Outside of the French Open, every major has pretty much been his to lose for the longest time now.

Yep. He's at the top of the heap. When he keeps his composure he's tough to beat. When he blows his stack he makes a lot of unforced errors.

Novak Djokovic defeats Matteo Berrettini 7 6, 6 4, 6 4, 6 3, to become the 2021 Wimbledon Champion.

He's at the top of the tennis chain. I think it time for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to pass the baton. Is Djokovic the GOAT?

Anyone with DTV the US Open channels are 901 thru 907

One of my favorites #20 Gael Monfils is playing #87 Steve Johnson on 904. Won 1st set 7 5. Leads in 2nd set 2 1. Gael looks like he's having fun playing. He's full of antics. Gael is very animated.

Had to hold back tears. LOL! Seriously, felt bad for her. But they are both so young. I think she'll get her turn soon.

She just won a major so I don't want to sell her short, but she's probably 50/50 to lose in the first round of her next tournament lol. Women's tennis is that wide open. Still, she's a qualifier who literally didn't drop a set to win the US Open, 14-for-14, and a teenage qualifier at that. Just an incredible achievement!

Considering both of the finalists were unseeded I'd say they are going to be the next generation of female tennis stars.

I'm a both fan. Both tough, talented, high tennis iq, great variety, ambitious. Both more than one slam. Raducanu had the easier road, and benefited from a slightly tired Fernandez. Fernandez took care of 3 top 5 players, two multiple Slam winners too in tough come from behind sometimes 3 set matches. She didn't seem to have the same consistency, or the same pop or angles. Can't say Emma would not have won either way, though. The veterans they beat had a lot to lose, and the rooks didn't, so we will see how things go. They both seem extraordinarily mature, which they may need with all the things coming their way in terms of pressure, obligations, etc over the next several years. I hope they navigate it well. I would not be surprised if they have ups and downs into their 20s, but I would also not be surprised if they get to the top and stay there.

I also think the young'uns benefit from not having a real clear top talent veteran who is consistent and mentally very strong taking the top 1 or two spots after Serena's slide has left a gap. I keep thinking there should be a powerful 5'9 or 10' or taller all around athlete with power, movement and speed will come and outhit everyone. Especially after Serena. Still, these two have shown maybe that they are already two of the top mentally strong players out there. And they are coming for the older ones. Careers are going longer, players are going to be playing into their mid30s perhaps, so Osaka, Coco Gauff, Canadian who won it as a teen two years ago, anyone under 27 has got plenty of time to see what shakes out. Barty going to keep working to stay #1 and she has the variety. Coco must have watched this final with a lot of interest, as she is both younger and more experienced (or was more experienced) than these two.

One-dimensional players are going to find it tough to get a Slam even more than before. Better be able to mix it up, and come forward sometimes, because variety seems like the way of the future. Get to work, vets.

Now...Djokovic. I hate his pseudoscience views, but still want to see him take it for history, and make this maybe among the best Slam tournaments ever, with the women's going the way it did. Medvedev has coasted without any stress to the final, easy draw to start and challenges falling most before even getting to play Medvedev. Meanwhile, GOAT has had a tough path, and the most recent being the toughest, a five setter. Probably banged up and tired vs a young hungry and above all clever talent who almost beat Nadal coming from down two sets to make it a high quality five sets. Plus, wants revenge for Djokovic smoking him in the Australian Open. Doesn't bode well for Djokovic, but either way, a great story for a promising final.

Not surprised he lost. He wasn’t as dominant down the stretch.
However watching nadal, roger, Novak is pretty dope.

Djokovic's record at the US Open isn't as great as you'd think. Just the 3 titles there. Obviously that's nothing to sneeze at, but for a guy who is the greatest hard-court player ever, you'd think that he'd have at least a couple more. We may have discussed this already, but perhaps his grueling style of tennis leaves him a bit exhausted at the tail end of the tennis season. It's why I think it was a mistake to play the Olympics, given that the Grand Slam was in play. It's also why I think he's done so much better in Australia, as he's more fresh at the start of a new season.

He also had an extremely difficult draw, with Berrettini in the QF (Wimbledon finalist), Zverev in a 5-set SF (he plays Djoker really tough), and then the much-fresher Medvedev in the final, who wasn't tested in his SF against FAA. So that certainly had something to do with it as well. Add in the pressure of winning the Slam, and there you have it.

Love both Leylah and Emma. They've lifted women's tennis back up among my favorite sports, I hardly watched it in decades. They both play with such determination and intelligence, and are poised and charming off the court as well. Seems like the the WTA really hit the jackpot. Looking forward to watching them through the years.
