Aww damn, just saw this.
RIP Laker legend.
I imagine the joshing and trash talking going on right now with Elgin, Kobe and Wilt must be pretty good. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman

Wow! That's some serious longevity. My interest started the same year he retired, and our 33 game streak began. In the context of this board, you're a legend too! |

Rest in peace, a true legend of the game. I remember watching tape of him, many years ago, he played like Magic, turn a defensive rebound into a coast to coast fast break layup. He made those games electrifying. The team ran the offense through him and teams focused on stopping him. He lit ‘em up. No doubt in my mind he would thrive in this ‘small ball’ era. My lasting image of Elgin is that poster dunk over Bill Russell, he took off just like how his statue looks outside of statues and crammed it on Bill’s head. Legendary |

RIP Elgin. It's a shame that millennials like me can't just go on Youtube and watch entire games of him like we can with the Showtime teams.
I've read that Chick Hearn said that Elgin was as great a player as he ever saw or something like that. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

I was a bit surprised by this I mean I shouldn't be the man did live a very long life. I guess because I never heard of any health issues and haven't thought of him in a while that I never expected to hear this (now at least) |

First Lakers game I ever saw starred Elgin. He was the star among all the stars that night.
I always felt it a real shame he retired just before the Lakers won it all.
RIP Elgin Baylor. Enjoy the big team in the sky with Chick calling the games. Sounds like heaven. _________________ Mama, There Goes That Mamba. |

One of basketballs greatest to never win a championship or an MVP trophy. Played with Jerry West. Number 22 is in the rafters at Staples. Chick Hearns had nothing but praise for him.
