Yeah, just saw that. Elgin, after battling the Celtics multiple times and losing, retired the year the Lakers finally won it all. It was the same year that my interest in basketball began.

Rest in paradise Elg!

One of my favorites of all time (obviously). The first player I remember whose acrobatic moves made me gasp in awe as he hung in the air for what seemed like an eternity, defying gravity, while his defenders simply fell at his feet, powerless to stop him. The originator of the circus shot. Elgin is a huge reason why I've been a Lakers fan for more decades than I care to admit.

Before Kobe there was Michael Jordan. Before Jordan there was Dr. J. Before Dr. J there was Elgin Baylor. There's no such thing as a "Player unlike anything we've ever seen" I know it's asking for too much, but it would be nice if people would do their homework before attaching "GOAT" to someone's identity. R.I.P. to the 1st NBA superstar of Los Angeles.

I'm a Lakers fan because my dad was a Lakers fan and my dad was a Lakers fan because Elgin Baylor was a Laker. For a kid growing up on a farm in Minnesota, cheering for Elgin during his Minneapolis days -- and through the LA years -- was like cheering for an otherworldly superstar who could do unimaginable things on the basketball court. One of his most prized possessions remains an autographed pic he got of Elgin when he was a kid.

Love reading about those Elgin-Jerry years, even with the heartbreak they experienced in the '60s. Just an incredible duo and Elgin has always been underrated when the greats of the game are discussed.

I actually went to Cameo a few weeks ago to see if Elgin might be on there as my dad's birthday is coming up. He was. But it was like 450 bucks so didn't do it.

RIP.
