So the next (poll?) question is, between Marc Gasol and Damian Jones, who is the preferred starter?

Im under the impression that gasol is the obvious starter. Fits with AD better.

Have to keep him, can always cut Dudley or Mckinnie.

Jones is definitely a better prospect to develop then Kostas.. if the Lakers get Drummond they can send Damian Jones to the G League and have him get some playing experience there.

Not even a question imo.. Gasol is still clearly the starter and a much better fit in the starting lineup especially after that solid stretch he was having before the Covid protocol.. He does a lot more then I think many fans understand, just look at DS when he was getting that bit more of free space going to the basket due to bigs having to at least somewhat respect Gasol's perimeter game. Everything is much tougher for him since.

Certain matchups and giving us that extra athletic big is huge though regardless.

Damian doesn't qualify for sending to G League. He's played too many years in the nba.

Last day of his 2nd 10-day contract. He's played well IMO. If he flashes vs Capela I think Rob/Vogel/Bron would have seen enough to keep him for the rest of the season.

I would like him to be the solution at center as a vertical/lob threat. He's only 25 and brings more team speed to the lineup. I hope we get the chance to see him next to AD defensively.

Then they can focus more on a 3&D wing defender.

He is also not eligible for a 2-way.

The G league just ended its season literally last week.

Per Woike

Sources say the Lakers are not re-signing center Damian Jones for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expired. Jones has been a fill-in starter and played well, but hard cap, roster limitations win out in the end.

I would consider signing him this off-season as a 3rd center.

With LBJ out for at least a few weeks, the writing was on the wall.

They need roster help and can’t carry or guarantee his contract and roster spot.

Yeah when you said that yesterday I thought that was an interesting point that I hadn’t considered. That injury messed up a lot of folks.

IMO the FO is convinced we’re getting Drummond or Whiteside....even to a lesser extent LMA or Boogie....I like Jones a lot but we need some offense now probably more than D....or at least a vet and not someone as raw as Jones....I would definitely try to get him on the summer league team.

I'd try to keep Jones on one of our two-way contracts...We carry some dead weight there...

He can’t. Too many years in the NBA.

They know they’ll get one of the buyout guys so it didn’t really make sense to keep him.

Regardless of what other center the Lakers may acquire, why not keep Jones and release Kostas or Cacok?

Jones has played and played well. Kostas and Cacok have just sat on the bench for how many years now?
