AH is in Texas. I PM'd him. I'm waiting for his reply. Hope he's OK. People are burning their personal belongings for heat. There are water shortages and power outages.

As large parts of Texas woke up Thursday to another day of a power crisis amid extreme winter weather, issues with water systems added to the misery for much of the state's population.

TX is on its own grid.

TX is in shambles.

I don't give a damn about Texas. My concern is for an LG family member.

Cruz obviously doesn't give a damn either. He bounced. He's in Cancun.

Our President gives a damn.

When a state fails this badly, they shouldn't be allowed to "do their own thing" any more with their grid and deregulated utilities.

I feel for the huge population in Texas that never voted for the policies that led to this catastrophe.

Also, (bleep) the Texas governor who blamed this on "green" energy. Blatantly lying like that should be grounds for criminal prosecution.

It's hard sometimes to separate our contempt for the politicians from the very real people who are are impacted by their crap policies. Lot of people are really suffering. Even if they voted for these politicians, they didn't vote for this sort of (bleep)-up. And many didn't vote for the Republicans in charge.

Gov Abbott, Ted Cruz, et al, those are the people responsible for this and they have the best ability to not suffer the effects, just fly to Cancun. But families with little kids, grandma on her own with no heat or water or lights, gotta feel for them. Hope you get thru to AH and he and his are OK.

Having to melt and boil snow because there's no water is bad enough.

But if you don't have any wood or fuel to boil the melted snow...

Then you are forced to go to a shelter to have water and heat and you get exposed to Covid. These folks are in a bad spot unless they can afford to fly to Cancun. Or if the roads are clear and they have a car that can take them to relatives out-of-state. The people with the least get (bleep) the most.

I heard from AH. He's OK. He's heating canned Chef Boyardee in his fireplace. Camping in the city.
He just got his power back and the water pressure allowed him to shower. Water pressure low because pipes are frozen. I remember those days. We kept the water running all night so the pipes wouldn't freeze. He says the worst is over.

On Cruz going to Cancun, he may have canned his reelection. People are pissed. All the politicians in Texas are on the hot seat. Texas is up for grabs.

It's so tragic it takes a crisis to open people's eyes. Pandemic, weather. Those most culprit are Repukelicans. Their true colors are showing. They only think of and care about self.

Nope, GOP voters love being conned, so they'll continue voting for him.

Theres a thing where if a GOP pol pisses off the media and liberals, even, maybe especially if it’s something egregious and undeniably awful, the base will both deny it happened and simultaneously love that it happened because it owned the libs.

They're already blaming the Green New Deal for this disaster...you know...that piece of legislation that doesn't even exist. They are actually blaming a CONCEPT.

Texas is gonna Texas. Straight from the Repugnant play book. Behave like a gd selfish, unempathic sack of human garbage and start playing victim when your dumb f'en ass gets handed to you. "Waah, leave me alone...this isn't right". Too bad (bleep). Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!

And claiming that wind turbines solar panels don't work in the cold, as if the ones in Iceland, Greenland, Siberia, Antartica don't work.

Their problem isn't that the technologies (including their cola and natural gas powered grid) are failing. It's that the purposely chose to not have them federally regulated and thus properly winterized.

I hope they keep talking out the side of their necks. They too will end up on the wrong side of a billion dollar defamation lawsuit like our good friends who went after Dominion.

“Look, it was obviously a mistake, and in hindsight I wouldn't have done it...I started having second thoughts almost the moment I sat down on the plane, leaving when so many Texans were hurting didn't feel right”

So Ted Cruz implicitly admits he lied, and then lies again about why he cut the trip short.

Yup. They are the greatest example of the GOP. (bleep) talking braggarts who wilt like week old flowers under the lightest pressure.

Since we're having fun at Texas's expense (though it is hardly funny) let's not forget about their zoning structure that allowed for a a fertilizer plant to be located in the immediate proximity of residential housing, schools, and a nursing home, that violently exploded killing and injuring over 150, while damaging or destroying some 150 buildings. What some might not know is that this plant only carried $1M in liability insurance that was not nearly sufficient to cover the damages, and that Texas did not require such a plant to carry liability insurance at all.
