Nat Robinson had his first professional fight. He got KDFO. He should quit while he has his health. Boxing is not his game.

These athletes have to realize that Jake Paul trains for this year round. He can fight.

That looked like the Marciano KO of Jersey Joe Walcott. Punch and spacing was similar to that KO punch from yesteryear. These were versions of Rocco and Jersey Joe scaled down by many, many degrees.

Stu Lance has it right, none of these dudes want to fight or can fight. Big difference being an elite athlete and a fighter.

Jake does nothing but train for this and has Nate by several inches and at least 20 pounds.

Nate turned Jake Paul into Jake LaMotta.

No. Mythologized a tonne because he was so uber in all ways. Fans often confuse their affinity for Mike (we all have some) with his actual technical skill and career. It didn't help in his early career that his luded performance against Buster Douglas was actually impressive because it showed that he had an iron chin. He took a load of abuse before finally going down. You didn't get to see every facet of his ability, stamina, etc because he KO'd jobbers in 1-2-3 rounds.

Getting incarcerated in the prime of his career didn't help Iron Mike Tyson. Thats 3 years lost in boxing that he could've used to improve his boxing skills, 3 years not fighting professionally diminished his skills that I don't even he ever regained.

The Non-Zealot fam even stupidly paid for Mike vs Peter "Hurricane" McNeeley, who twice used the term "jeepers creepers!" to describe Mike's strength. He wasn't using it in self-knowing way either, like you might if you ever say the term jeepers creepers. 50 bucks down the tube. And we knew better, I'm sure. Mike just got out of the can tho. It was like waiting for Magic to return to the NBA, years of waiting.

OJ's Bronco chase >>>> 94 NBA Finals. That's where we were with the other Mike gone. Just capped 88 Bulls at Lakers. Tyson in front row. Laker/Earvin fan. Great taste, that Mike. He once intimidated Jordan at some event and a person there said Jordan looked like he saw his own ghost. He got outta there while the gettin was good.

I think some of the other fights were worse for $50 than the McNeeley fight. At least McNeeley fought and made it entertaining; his corner stopped it quickly and that upset people, but he wouldn’t have lasted much longer. He was overmatched. Tyson had another quick knockout in the first round soon after that.

The rematch with Holyfield was more disappointing IMO, even though it lasted longer. Tyson had a really solid 3rd round and then just basically quit. There were some other super quick weird fights. Orlin Norris quit after the first round and it was ruled a no contest. In another fight the ref stopped it too quickly in the first round. The Golata fight ended with Golata quitting. Etc.

Ali beat several great fighters even when he was well past his prime. Who were the best fighters Tyson beat? Tucker and Spinks? Who else? Larry Holmes was old and so out of shape it was almost pointless to have that fight.

If he stayed out of prison Tyson really could have added to his resume by beating a much tougher group of fighters in the 90’s. It’s so disappointing he never got a rematch with Douglas, never fought Holyfield in 1991 and never fought Bowe or Lewis in the 90’s, or many of the top contenders in that time. Dominating the 90’s would have made Tyson the clear GOAT.

If we can assume Cus D'Amato is some Tyson miracle worker and can get him to maximize his peak ability, I think even the fighters Tyson didnt naturally match up well with such as Lewis and Bowe, would have both lost to Iron Mike on sheer activity and will. Lewis by KO as he would have gotten caught eventually and Bowe on points. Who is the best natural fighter amongst that group of late 80s/90s guys? Riddick Bowe. If we assume every fighter has the same intangibles and we are just measuring boxing talent, there is no question Big Daddy was the most gifted in terms of the total package.

The McNeeley fight was over as soon as you saw the Celtic green trunks. Any white dude who wears those is a 1st Rd jobber. Not as ill-advised as Marvis Frazier wearing pink trunks, but still. We bot Spinks in 88, too. That one lasted 30 seconds. By Holyfield, I was meh. I would've been annoyed if I had bought the ear match. Tyson pulling that was worse than Fan Man from Holyfield Bowe II. Robbed Evander from yet another moment to shine. That happened to him a lot, all the way back to the 84 Olympics.

The Great White Hype....loved that movie, pretty much described how to sell boxing in the PPV era.

We got the Spinks fight back then too. My mom left the room to go to the kitchen to get some snacks and missed the entire fight.

Haha...

You could tell from Spinks’s demeanor before the bell that he wasn’t about that life. Half of Tyson’s ability was the physical fear he put into guys. Yes, he could bring the pain, which is why they were afraid, but it created a self feeding loop. A guy like Ali, with skills, a chin, and no fear would have been a lot tougher for Tyson, and would have exposed his limited skill set. Make no mistake, Ali fought a couple guys who could hit every bit as hard as Tyson (perhaps three, Forman, Norton, and Liston, who approximated a lot of Tyson’s psychological effect), and Tyson would not have frightened him.
