Great Gen X list you compiled. I still have my complete 1st series of Garbage Pail Kids in a deck sized plastic box. Good condition, pretty sharp corners. Prolly worth a few hundred on ebay, but they have sentimental value. My whole school was into those, teachers used to take them away, etc. 1st Series was damn near mythical because they had a limited run until the 3rd Series, which were printed en masse. 2nd Series was hard too.
I won't check this on wiki, but I think...I think Wonder Years debuted in 90. Maybe late 89 at most. I loved both the debut and finale, which a lot disliked.
Fox Channel. In 87, they started off a spate of programming including Married..., Cops (all Broward County Sheriff's episodes), Ullman Show, Simpsons and more. There was a crappy werewolf show called Werewolf (good name). If you can recall any other early Fox Channel stuff, name it.
The Boss and Born In The USA were landmark. That song was of the cultural zeitgeist.
LA Olympics and Mary Lou Retton
Jordache jeans and the like. Sassoons. They briefly showed a lineup of chics' asses in those jeans at the start of Ridgemont. I had teen sisters in the early 80s. They all had to have that crap. They ripped my folks off now that I think of it. I just threw dirt clods.
Another indescribable artifact was dudes wearing midriffs. The short shorts and long ass color-striped socks of the time weren't enough.
E.T. and Spielberg in specific. Yuge thing. Reagan and Nancy and generals saw it and some of them cried sittin there in their military dress.
Blatantly obvious one I don't think I've seen yet: Rubik's Cube
Mimeograph copies which kids would smell, another scene of that from Fast Times. Purple ink. Prolly predated the 80s, but teachers used them well into the decade. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

^Forgot all about that. Pages fresh off the “ditto machine” were the best, person in front would be taking a whiff as they passed you the stack. The cool texture of the paper along with the aroma diffusion was unreal. |

He lives in somewhere in So. Cal. He hosts parties and 80's themed concerts (pre-covid that is) and has a shift on the Sirus/XM 80's radio station.
Oh for $1,500 you can him to DJ your own private party:

He went down to the Caribbean (one of the St. islands) and became a dive master. But I heard he has returned to the states and has either a terrestrial radio show somewhere or a podcast. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

You Better Run by Benatar. I knew that one already. You Better You Bet by The Who was 4th. Never can recall #3 off the top of my head. It never formed into a memory in my neurons. Whenever I get asked this, I confuse 1 with Treat Me Right and 4 with Who Are You by the respective groups.

Sad thing about the start of the 80s is that there was still time left for The Beatles and The Who and Stones still had hit records after 79. If just not for the murder of Lennon. His album Double Fantasy was released after his death in 80. He was the linchpin. The hit Just Like Starting Over was wistful, must've been gutwrenching for those who grew up with The Beatles. They were probably headed for some kind of reconciliation judging by his comments before he died. Keith Moon died in 78, and John Bonham of Zep and Bon Scott of ACDC died in 80 along with Lennon. Sucks to think of it even to this day. To add to that, Bob Marley succumbed to cancer in 81. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Richard Blade was the DJ at the wedding of my good friend a few years ago. True story. My buddy was/is a huge fan, contacted him and asked him if he would do it, and to his surprise, he did. He was as nice as could be, too. Really cool guy. _________________ THE JOB IS FINISHED! |

This is very SoCal specific, but...Skateway! There was one in Cypress where I grew up, and I know there were more in the area during the 1980's. _________________ THE JOB IS FINISHED! |

I don't remember those Stewart or Rundgren songs at all. Everything else, yes, but those two might've been minor hits. Then again, I'm not a Todd Rundgren fan. Rod Stewart was such a big star that I remember songs like Young Turks, Hot Legs, Stay With Me, Tonight's The Night, Passion, Some Guys Have All The Luck (monsta radio play mid decade), Maggie Mae, You Wear It Well, and of course Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. And Forever Young, which I heard the other day on 93.1. Like Bad N Ruin from Faces, too. Sopranos song.
This's is seizure inducing. Director: We need more movement!

I don't remember the Rundgren song either (same reason), but that Rod song I remember because even in the context of the time it stood out as a totally cheesy pop garbage. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
