Gale Sayers has to be remembered as a GOAT. Any who saw him play have to think of him in that vein. I don't know if any here remember Brian Piccolo. A movie was made about the two of them. RIP

I'm assuming many LG members are too young to remember Gayle. He played in the Walter Payton. era.

I remember watching NFL Films as a kid and getting introduced to highlights of him, and I remember the legendary voice of John Facenda, who marveled at "the razor-sharp cutting ability of Gale Sayers." It was like watching a dude playing a video game. Amazing talent.

RIP.

I was indeed quite good for a TV Movie.

A wonderful story about two real teammates.

Sayers was pre-Payton. Gayle played in the 60's and retired a few years before Sweetness was drafted.

True 10 year difference. Sayers drafted 1965 Payton 1975. Let's say around the same time. I didn't know he suffered from dementia. Wonder if football contributed?

He was the early version of Barry Sanders.

Pretty much, yes. It was like he was playing and moving at a different speed than the defenders. And those cuts. He was a superlative player, almost like a Sandy Koufax in that he was so brilliant but not for very long.
