He’s looking pretty good in Portland and we could have used another scorer.

Mentioned the same thing but most still think he wouldn’t be a good fit here.

Melo’s doing good in Portland but I don’t think he should have signed with us imagine he had a bad game and didn’t close a game or something imagine the headlines everybody creating drama of Melo not closing a game or not playing much.

He's playing better this year, but he's still a low-efficiency player, doesn't pass, doesn't play D and doesn't run the floor that well.

Pass.

Lol no. He fits well on Portland. You just know it would be a train wreck here in LA.

Yes. Mello's playing lights out. He's willing to accept any role given. He knows this is it. His 3 is on, he's rebounding and most of all he's playing defense. For $2.159 million I'd take a chance.

What’s strange to me is that LeBron and Carmelo were viewed almost as equal as rookies and early in their careers, but their careers ended up so dramatically different.

Lebron was always seen as clearly better than Carmelo. Lebron won rookie of the year over Carmelo by a 78-40 vote. By his second season, Lebron was making the all-NBA second team while Carmelo received no honors. By the time Carmelo made an all-NBA team, Lebron was second in MVP voting.

Carmelo was a star, but was never close to Lebron.

How was Carmelo viewed relative to Wade and Bosh?

Probably about the same as Wade, but hard to compare since they play different positions.

Bosh was never viewed as all that high. Big stats guy on bad teams.

Sure. But he wanted to start. Are we bring AD or LBJ off the bench to help that?

If he was ok with being a 6th man scorer, sure. But he never was.

Not the right fit for this team imo. The Lakers are a defense first team and Melo doesn’t fit the identity.

He is a higher scoring Kyle Kuzma with way less defense. I don’t think it would work out tbh.

We are already having a bit off a challenge with Waiters. He’s not horrible defensively, but the Lakers success is highly contingent on the 5 guys playing great defense with no weak link. We lost a bit of that with no AB.

Prior to the re-start the only weak link defensively in the rotation was Rondo. Now, we have a couple of questionable defenders...

Nope. Kuz and Melo are too similar. Kuz on his worst year offensively while coming off the bench for majority of the season is still slightly more efficient than 'revitalized' Melo.

Starter Kuz blows starter Melo out of the water though. Not sure how Melo would fare coming off the bench but he'd probably be worse than he is now.

He simply wouldn't be filling a need. And even if Kuz's position was available, I would have preferred signing Jeff Green over Melo.

We need to hit some 3's, win some games and leave these kind of laments aside. Melo wasn't getting the role he wanted, it wasn't happening, it will be nice to see Kuz slowing him down and the Lakers bouncing the Blazers if they get in.

Yes. They should have grabbed him. We need another weapon that can score. He's not reinvented himself, but he's willing to do more and keep his mouth shut.

If he was ok with being a 6th man scorer, sure. But he never was.

He's willing to come off the bench. He's earned his way into the starting lineup. He's also accepting any role given him.
