I'll always remember him as the manager in "The Natural", The head of the secret agency in "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins", and the Postmaster General in "Seinfeld" in that episode when Kramer refused to accept any more mail.

I'm surprised he was only 85 years old. I feel like I've been watching him since I was a kid and he looked old even back then.

I remember him from "Our House"

Old show in the 80s on NBC.

Regardless RIP

(also now they'll probably retire the Andy Reid/Wilford Brimley jokes)

Our House was a good series. He played that grandfather role perfectly. RIP.

As a diabetic, I will miss Mr. Brimley as chief spokesman and advocate for getting affordable testing supplies. Besides his lone scene from Seinfeld, always loved his role in My Fellow Americans!

RIP Wilfred Brimley

THE THING, 1982, maang. The only movie where Wilford ever went on a gun and axe rampage. Wilf: "THAT THING WANTED TA BE UUUUUUUUUUUSSS!"

And, of course, Quaker Oats...

Liked him in The Natural as the Knights manager, in The Firm as the shady head of security, and in In & Out as the father of Kevin Kline's character.

My wife makes fun of me because I pronounce it dia-beet-us instead of dia-bee-tees.

MANY great performances IMHO.....but Absence of Malice is the role that I first remember being aware of him with. And, of course, Pop in The Natural was absolutely the best. He will be missed.....RIP

Yeah, he was pretty much born looking 85 years old. He was 50 in Cocoon.

The one that always gets me is his age while filming The Firm is about the same age that Tom Cruise is now.

I'm in the mood for love.....simply because I've got one!

When I watched that scene I posted from The Thing, I figured that they might've zeroed in on Brimley because it was an intensive scene where they wanted an older guy (or older looking one) to be so high on adrenaline that he was swinging an ax many times and pushing down Russell and others even when they jumped on him. Brims had the look and was physically capable enough to do the scene. Richard Dysart (the other "older" cast who got his arms bitten off by The Thing) didn't have that role. He was 5 years older than Brims, tho they looked about the same age.

Eww:

Speaking of Cocoon, I saw Gutenberg on Maher the other day and didn't recognize him until Maher said his name. He's taken the old guy mantle.

He did those commercials for years. So "as you may know" isn't strange, given that context, is it?

I still got a chuckle out of your post, though.

I agree, and that's in no way intended as a knock against the guy. He always seemed much older than what he was with, due to him playing older/senior characters when he was younger than what his characters would have been.

Did you post that twice on purpose? Not that you shouldn't warn people of dia beetus every day, but curious. It used to be called sugar dia beetus, btw.

He was even better in Hard Target as a Cajun moonshine distiller who kills people with his bow and arrows.
