One thing I can agree with is that I'd prefer to go to my local mom and pop joint over any of the major chains.

if you want a greasy gut bomb with toppings that just taste good and give you the right kind of fat guy, overeating reflux, it's pizza hut.

dominos is what would pop out on the other end of the line if you tried to fax a pizza hut pizza.

costco pizza is something you'd pay for on campus in 9th grade and wonder why your school doesn't just spend the extra buck per slice for pizza hut, like the school in the better part of town

And papa Johns makes you decide whether to eat the pizza or the box.

Round Table is a little pricey but has always been good whenever I've had it. Though it's been a while since I've had it.

In general, Costco is the best of these choices. I liked Domino's deep dish in the past but it's been so long since I had it, and their regular crust pizza is so-so at best. Pizza Hut is OK but always seemed too greasy/heavy. Little Caesar's is as basic as it gets. The Papa John's slogan might as well be "terrible ingredients, terrible pizza, Papa John's."

Costco pizza tastes fresh to me and is good every time.

Dominos has really gone downhill in the last 20 years. Marinating the crust with garlic doesn't work for me.

Costco is decent beater pizza, their toppings are usually fresh. Probably the better of the bunch.

Pizza Hut and Papa Johns have always been in the last resort category for me.

Not my favorite, but I'm not a pineapple Nazi on pizza, either. I do love ham/canadian bacon, but pepperoni is my go-to topping. I can just have pepperoni and nothing else and it's great. Pepperoni and ham/canadian bacon I've often had too. Sometimes I'll add onions or something, or maybe black olives. Oh, and bacon can be a great pizza topping. But yeah, Round Table is great. Clearly several notches above the thread options.

As far as other joints that might be known, I don't mind Shakey's, and I used to like Straw Hat back in the day. (There are still a few in the SoCal area.)

I see you list that you are in Anaheim, have you tried Papa Pilos (near the corner of Ball & Knott)?

It's my local fav and far better than anything I had in Rome last summer...

Absolutely. Even some of the smaller chains like Pitfire etc. outclass the main ones.

I didn't realize that Round Table still existed.

Any reason why they don’t have 1 in Florida?

It’s pretty much exclusively a west coast chain except for a few in Texas now.

I have not, but thank you for the recommendation. I'll have to try it. I live on the east side of Anaheim within close walking distance of Angel Stadium, so it's actually closer to where I grew up in Cypress. But not far at all.

For those who like Chicago-style deep dish, there's a place in Placentia called Tony's Little Italy that is outstanding. It's very expensive for a large, but the good news is that one slice is an entire dinner, and the leftovers still taste great. I never mind paying up if something is excellent.

Always wanted to try a Chicago style deep dish but it’s pretty rare find 1 in California I think I will try to see if I can head to Placenta in the near future.. Thanks ChickenStu.

True Chicago pizza and "Chicago-style" pizza are two completely different things. It's actually not the deep dish that characterizes it. It's the fact that it is much more of a pie than it is what most people associate as pizza.

Tony's really does seem like pie, I'd say. It's so thick and rich and, as I said, a single slice is an entire meal. A large pizza is rather heavy (in weight) from there. It's delicious, seriously. The owner was born in Sicily. I'll link their website below; feel free to check out the "Press" link near the top for reviews.

http://www.tonyslittleitaly.com/

Omar, when I was in Chicago I had Lou Malnati's, which I understand is a chain there. Could be that their mom & pop chains are a lot better.

What about the fast-pizza trend, like Blaze, Pieology, or Pizza Press? (There's a Pizza Press across the street from Disneyland.) Those are pretty good, and better than the thread options, I think.
