Pretty much sums it up.

This is my worry too. It’s also accentuated by the fact that I think we have 3 players that fit the description: JR, Waiters and Rondo.

He could do both. Hit a Sam Perkins Finals game 1 winning shot, celebrate at a club that night and infect half the team. We'd be hoping for THT lobs to Cakoc to deliver a ring.

JR is JR -- you can never predict when he'll focus, and when his mind will drift off to another reality. But I'm not expecting a whole bunch from a 35-year-old who played his last game 18 months ago. He's just another body at this point.

For those that watched Cavs last year Lebron was there...JR was REALLY bad. His defense was non existent and his shot making ability had fallen off from what it used to be.

I’d take 2020 Bradley any day over that JR...I hope he proves me wrong.

JR w free agency last summer.. they signed Bradley and never entertained JR.

JR was a choice over Waiters a few months ago.. they worked out both and chose Waiters.

But right now, Bradley is staying home and we have a roster spot. Clearly Boogie is not ready to play or he'd likely be back. I imagine they checked in with Collison to see where he was at as well. So it comes down to JR, Shumpert, Trey Burke, and Justin Anderson. Burke and Anderson signed already but I am not sure either are better options necessarily. Getting a guy who is 6'8 and can score is a good pick up. We just need him to lock in on D as well.... for whatever limited mins he's getting.

Just when I thought this team couldn't get any more unlikable. Just take "Lakers" off the front of the jerseys and replace it with Klutch. SMH.

I'm not sure Smith will end up being just a break glass in emergency signing. He has significant experience in high leverage situations and knows how to play off of LeBron. I get the risks, and we don't know what he can really bring circa 2020. But the guys in front of him all have their own issues.

This is pretty much how I feel, LeBron knows JR more then the rest of us do and the fact that we are signing him means that LeBron knows he can help us in a big way, it’s a low risk high reward signing.

Not gonna lie, I was heavily against signing JR back when we cut Troy Daniels, but considering the options available after we cut Bradley I’m not too miffed we signed him. The only other guy I would’ve preferred is Trey Burke

He’s definitely a ‘break glass in case of emergency’ type, I don’t see him getting that many minutes

Also, seeing as anything hasn’t been announced about him yet, I’m assuming Dwight is in?

a longer wing defender who can hit open 3's and get buckets if needed. i think this will be an underrated signing.

Well that is the negative way to look at it. You can also say if he is in at clutch time then he is probably playing pretty well and spreading the floor for AD/Bron.

If your name conjures images of a classic brain fart and jokes about your "pipe," I would imagine you'd be pretty motivated to go above and beyond to re-write your legacy with a Lakers post-drought championship.

I was against this signing at the beginning of the year 100% and even back when we went with Waiters instead but all things considered in this exact situation I don't think it's a bad signing at all. He has tons of Playoff experience and a good amount of that was with Lebron and I think the season will be over before his age starts to really show. Nowhere close to an ideal signing but the upside is there, we just have to hope we get locked in, shot is falling J.R. .

I still believe Waiters is going to be a huge surprise to many people if this season actually plays out. I remember months ago there were some people raving about how good he was looking in the closed practices. He's right in his prime years so if he comes in focused and in great shape he could end up being the guy that benefits the most from this long layoff and Bradley not playing imo. I'm not counting on that happening but I believe the possibility is there.. Much crazier things have happened this year

Not thrilled at all with this signing. I understand it is a “ best they can do under the circumstances “ signing. But bottom line is the team just took a huge competitive hit.

Replacing Bradley (and his 24mpg) with Smith ? Not a fair trade.

Sure, if you haven’t watched him play in a couple of years.

I actually agree that JR more than likely won't be in meaningful tight game situations....but a lot of you also thought Dwight was done and now look at him. I actually believe even right now that we're best, especially defensively when it's Dwight, Bron and AD up front.

I'm hoping that KCP starts, then Caruso and Waiters pick up most of Bradley's minutes.

JR I would keep for break in case of emergency.

The Lakers have to submit their playoff roster to the league tomorrow, so we'll know then if Dwight is in or out.

I bet that's what happens. We will see if playoff rondo shows up:

KCP / Rondo / Waiters
Green / Caruso / Waiters-Smith
Lebron / Kuzma / Smith
Davis / Morris / Kuzma
McGee / Howard / Davis

Cook/Dudley/everyone else

Not sure what people have against JR, I know he has his own issues but almost everyone I have heard since the signing happened have all been praising JR, Jay Williams, Danny Green and Perkins have all spoken highly of JR Smith and his work ethic.
