Man, this one is a significant hit.

Going to need KCP and Caruso to be really good defensively with heavier minutes.

With kcp in the line up everyone is 6”5 + and can shoot the rock.

Green and KCP both can shoot it 40% +

Waiters will score off the bench with kuz... we are good.

Pretty big loss...with this caveat: the stay at home thing is such a huge wildcard. AB was playing very well before the stop in play, but we have no idea how he'd look once play started. His level of play was different, at various parts of the season.

Same will be true of any player in the NBA, as no one has played 5 on 5 basketball since March. We don't know which team/players are going to be playing at their best, until play resumes. Tbh, this fact leaves the door open for a surprise team to win it all...We'll have to see.

Just a hunch, but I think Dwight might opt out also. He did not seem like he wanted to play last week.

Big loss but let's hope Dwight plays.

Move KCP into lineup, sign JR.

McGee, Dwight, Cousins
AD, Morris, Dudley
LeBron, Kuzma, Waiters
Green, JR, Cook
KCP, Caruso, Rondo

Yeah I thought about this as well. Since Avery has made the tough decision, perhaps Dwight finds it to be less pressure on himself now if he wants to opt out.

I hope the Lakers can still pay him for the games he’s going to be sitting out since his son is apparently vulnerable to respiratory conditions. Sucks to lose him, but family comes first.

Free Agents are still an option but I would bet on Rondo or Caruso starting.

I reckon it'd be KCP

Bron - Rondo
KCP - Caruso - Waiters
Green - Kuzma
Davis - Morris
McGee - Howard

If they're signing JR he's still with Waiters and Cook on the back end of the rotation. I think you're on the right track and then the rotation will shorten with those 3 getting minutes in spots depending on the situation, James and Davis go up to 38 later. I still have issues typing McGee but that's for another thread.

James 36/Rondo 12
KCP 28/Caruso 20
Green 28/Kuzma 20
Davis 16/Morris 24/Kuzma 8
McGee 10/Howard 18/Davis 20

Hopefully, Howard plays and one of Smith/Waiters/Cook push for minutes.

If Dwight opts out too, I’m calling asterisk.

Too much to overcome imo. AB and Dwight were glue type guys.

If Dwight is going to be out too, AD has to play center since McGee can't play big minutes. I would hope AD plays the 5 come playoff time with Bron & Kuz at the forward positions and KCP & Green in the backcourt as the starting 5.

It's kind of a bummer, but you have to respect AB's right to make the choice.

When AB's threes as well as his midrange fall, it seemed we were unbeatable. His defense seemed to be back on track in 2020 too. This really sucks.

This hurts. AB was our best guard before everything shutdown. Who do we have now that can put pressure on the ball handler up the court? Let’s just hope Dwight returns. Hate to say it, but I hope a few top teams have some of their top guys deciding to sit out too. Level the playing field lol.

I agree... I don’t see a ring this season. Not having AB could be a deciding factor alone. Having both opt out would be a nightmare.

Lou Will is known as a playoff choker. I would appreciate if he played and was on the floor at crunch time trying to defend someone.

What makes you optimistic about this situation? AB is our best defending guard, one of two players that can make teams pay if they force us into a midrange game, is our first line of defense and is a hawk on the ball handler, owned Patbev, and arguably was our best guard after the all star break. This doesn’t even consider that Rondo likely gets more playing time. Waiters and J.R, if he comes, will not play over him. Hell, Caruso might struggle to get minutes over Rondo. I’m feeling ill.

Hmm we would still have Lebron James and Anthony Davis. You don't "pack it in". Dwight is great, but it's not as if Anthony Davis couldn't take all his center minutes and Morris could get minutes at the 4.
