Great rendition of a great song. As one of the commenter's said, Toy would indeed be proud. Saw 'em (MT)in the front row back when you could actually buy tickets from a ticket agency and get good seats on day one--and let me tell you, it was LOUD.

I believe I may have posted this in the "That's my Jam!" thread, but screw it, I don't care because it also belongs here.

Yep. If it were feasible to literally wear out an album by playing, both of mine would be vinyl dust.

Never heard this version before, but I do have the original MT album and have heard the original version a thousand times. This is a great version and due to the type of (gruffy) vocals, and the fact that most of MT is deceased, I'm sure this version is probably on par or even better than anything the current version of MT can muster...

Thanks to lakeshow03 over in the sister thread, I was introduced to Gregory Alan Asakov. His cover is not well known, and I doubt the original is either.

I doesn't matter. This is a great song musically, but the lyrics, and the emotional effect of, and putting meaning to, make it one for the ages.

Here's a stripped-down version of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" I've always liked:

This definitely should've been my first entry.

Strawberry Letter 23 by The Brothers Johnson

The original as performed by Shuggie Otis.

STUCK AT HOME, I find I have way too much time on my hands..

Let's look at the song: Baby Please Don't Go

Originally recorded as a blues song by Big Joe Williams in 1935, here he is performing it in 1965:
https://youtu.be/U6RNptsBorM

In 1964, Van Morrison's band "Them" recorded it as a rock song:
https://youtu.be/8Wah7MqEHFg

A few years after that, Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes did it:
https://youtu.be/sFlHwXOaoX0

Sometime later Aerosmith did their version:
https://youtu.be/SCHDeuje728

So did AC/DC:
https://youtu.be/z3B95LETmtQ

But, for me, the very best version (I know ..."finally" huh?) was by British rock band Budgie, it has the best arrangement, great bass n drums and guitar work. Not a grinding rock song like the others above it has slight jazzy feel to it..
https://youtu.be/G21_tGs9Egc

So which version is your fav????
(Note the guitar solo starts at about 2:00)

Easy. Not only is the version by Them my favorite, it is one of my favorite songs, period, and one of the very best B sides (though originally the A side I believe) of all time.

Originally, and for some time to come, The Leaves version was my favorite. I wore out that side of the album before I even heard Hendrix do it. Now, I just like them both.

In the vein of Hey Joe, how about two kick-ass versions, though very different from each other, of another great song of that era:

Jeff Beck Group (Waooow wow)

Grateful Dead

And why not play the original? Another great Canadian song writer, Bonnie Dobson does her song.

Just the audio of a Fred Neil song, with a great intro and groove of the Hot Tuna portion of the Jefferson Airplane

Speaking of Fred Neil, Tim Buckley does The Dolphins

Maybe his most famous

More obscure but still good--not from the author but the band, HP Lovecraft
