That is good news that the cases are dropping, but I am nervous about shopping.

Reason being is that now several supermarket workers in my area have tested positive so that is real concern going forward.

I'm glad I'm stacked good on all things. Instacart employees may be going on strike. LINK Groceries that were being delivered in 2 hours now take a week. If the shoppers go on strike it may take longer. If the shoppers go on strike I may have to don a mask and shop. It'll have to be damn near an emergency. I have meat and veggies to last more than a month and I have enough Charmin Ultra Soft and Cottenelle flushables to keep from having tracks for months.

I've seen a couple of well sourced reports that say if you do the right things in regards to protection, the odds of getting infected are quite low. Mainly, be careful about how you bring your groceries in, clean packaging as sone as possible and diligently wash hands. basically, if you are going to contract, it is going to be through your face. Thus, if you keep your hands clean and refrain from touching your face, you reduce the risks immensely.

Great advice and pretty much exactly what I have been doing.

As a longtime germophobe, some of these behaviors have become routine for me but I do worry about making one "slip up" and touching something that is infected. It is mentally taxing to have to worry about it.

But you are right, the two best things to do to avoid this:

Wash hands with hot water and soap for at least 30 seconds regularly and do not touch your face if there is any way to avoid it.

Stay safe out there everyone....

I wipe down the items that need either refrigeration or freezing. Every thing else stays in my bag until I need it.

Will refrigeration and freezing kill COVID-19?

No I've heard it survives through colder temps. Nuking it works. I microwave as much as possible.

This has been cited in these threads a few times. The interesting part, at least to me, is the comparison of projected need for medical resources vs. actual available medical resources. The disparity could be pretty big in some places.

Otherwise, it's just another statistical model that requires a grain of salt because (1) the data used in the model is questionable through no fault of the people behind the model (for example, the problems with testing), and (2) any assumptions about how the virus spreads or the mortality rate are questionable at this stage, especially given the dramatically different results that we have seen in different parts of the world.

Again, I refer everyone to the 538 survey of infectious disease experts. It is striking how much their projections diverge:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/experts-say-the-coronavirus-outlook-has-worsened-but-the-trajectory-is-still-unclear/

I've been saying this for a while. Here is a new article from 538 that explains the point much better than I ever could:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-its-so-freaking-hard-to-make-a-good-covid-19-model/

DANG!...I was gonna go camping in mid-May, looks like I'm gonna have to push it off until June or July.

Being up at 8000 ft in a campground where the nearest people are 40 feet away seems like a safe place to be though...

No fridge or freeze does not work. This is a link to a Dr talking about how to clean your groceries, it's pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=6&v=sjDuwc9KBps&feature=emb_logo

There is something going on here. Ok in Thailand we have like 1400 cases today 12 total deaths since the beginning and 1700 total confirmed cases. Same with Singapore about 1000 cases 10 deaths or so. We went on lockdown on March 20th or so same like America pretty much. But everything is incremental not exponential. Helps that Thailand has a really good medical system. But there's something going on here. Bangkok is densly populated like New York but has 1000 cases or so. Thailand had huge amounts of Chinese tourists and business people interacting and travelling to and from the Kingdom. The temperatures have been high because it's hot season. Although February had a few colder days than usual. But it's been above 95 degrees to 100 most every day (normal).just throwing it out there but it doesn't even seem like the same bug. Who knows. The rumblings from some nurses I know are the government are going to ease the curfew soon maybe a week or 10 days. Maybe declare victory and move on.

We cannot force China to implement drastic changes, and they obviously give 0 (bleep) about starting another pandemic. If China doesn't want to take this pandemic seriously in terms of preventing a future outbreak, the US should change travel policies to enforce a 2 week quarantine at the airports on anyone that has traveled to/from China in the last 3 months or so for the foreseeable future. This policy serves two purposes:

1. Deter people from traveling to China at all since they will need to basically use most of their vacation to travel to the US after that

2. Protect the American people from negligence when people travel from China to the US

A Major Medical Staffing Company Just Slashed Benefits for Doctors and Nurses Fighting Coronavirus

Quote:
Another Alteon physician said he had been planning to ask for time off to go help out in New York, where the coronavirus outbreak is the worst in the nation. Now he has no paid time off, and he thinks his employer won’t support him if he gets sick. He said if his pay drops he’ll have to look for a new job.

“I have a huge loan payment. I have rent. I have groceries. I’m not going to sacrifice my life for when I get sick and they’re going to say, ‘You were replaceable,’” the physician said. “I cannot believe they did that to us."

How does this limit the virus from spreading from European travel?

And what brought this on. I think the change in policies is still to come. Right now everyone is dealing with the real time impact of the virus.
