California sucks unless you live in actual Northern California (i.e., north of SF by a decent margin) or in the Sierras
I can be persuaded on the SD area as well but that's about it

This can essentially be reduced to "climate", considering the activities cant all be done in the same day. And if that's the case, anyone can enjoy those without having to live there. |

You do understand the difference between coming to visit and actually moving here . . . right?
Those ads aren't telling you to move here. They are encouraging you to come and spend your money at our attractions and hotels and then go the (bleep) home. Which vast numbers of people do year in and year out. And we thank them for the revenue.

you've never tested this out? You can paddle out at san onofre, go dirtbiking at anza borrego, wine tasting in temecula, boarding at mountain high all before the sun goes down.
