Awesome halftime adjustment.

Moving AD to center and adding Caruso to the starting lineup to help LeBron

Troy Daniels keep shooting like that and Kuz coming back will put KCP on the bench

KCP needs to be on the bench with or without Kuz.
He’s starting off like last year and we cant afford that right now.

Does AD want to play C full time though?

We're trying to re-sign him so might be in our best interest to keep him feeling good about his role and his standing in this franchise.

I thought it was a weird move but it was the right move and the results showed. Maybe Vogel actually has the ability o coach a more modern style of game that he showed game 1.

Screwed if you do, screwed if you don't.

Without Cousins, AD needs to play a lot of center for this team to actually win games.

It depends on the team. If they're bigger than you (Jazz) you go small and punish their lack of mobility. If you're bigger than them, you make them prove they are mobile enough to punish your size.

It was nice to see Vogel finally do what all of LG has been asking for when he inserted Caruso into a critical game situation as opposed to garbage time. His defense was fantastic!

However, I still am not seeing an offense being run with the exception of an occasional pick. Sometimes, out of a timeout, I see a lot of actions, but usually it is just street ball, set a pick and try to do something with it.

This was my biggest concern with this coaching staff. Both Vogel and Hollins are defensive minded coaches. But where is the offensive schemes going to come from? Two games into the season and I'm still asking that question.

Are we really giving Vogel credit when everyone and their mother knows this team is better with AD at the 5? It was an obvious halftime adjustment.

Vogel is still understanding his team, but at the same time he has given each player a role and they are identifying with it. This has been missing the last few years, almost all the way back to 2011. We have had teams with many guys playing roles above their heads or not really knowing what their role is.

He has outlined guys he likes and what he wants from them.

It usually starts with D.

Avery Bradley. D up, and make some shots.
McGee-Howard. D up, anchor and roll to the basket. No post up touches.
Danny Green. 3nD wing.
Troy Daniels. Come in and snipe.
Even KCP. He is playing D, and it is clear trying to limit his bad shots.

For AD and Lebron. It is clear, AD is the guy we want to play off early. Then go to Lebron as the game wears on. I think the thing Vogel is not sure of is how much to rely on Lebron as a PG, and how much to have AD at the 5. There are positives and some negatives of both. Playing AD at the 5 full time will wear him down, and lead to FT. I think he should go the Pau Gasol route. Lebron should play point guard with Avery Bradley defending how he is, but we should get Caruso and Rondo in to allow Lebron to be more aggressive. We definitely need to run more pick and rolls with Lebron at the 4 and AD at the 5.

Have a look at Avery last year, Dwight last year, Troy Daniels. Many of the guys on this roster were not well ranked around the league in terms of free agents. The only notable valued free agent we signed was Danny Green. Everyone else was pretty much a journey man type of FA. This is really good coaching IMO to get this sort of defensive effort out of those guys and to also be able to get them to buy in to playing for the team first.

Now I do not know if he is a great coach or he will succeed. However this is the first coach I believe has a plan for how to win playoff games in October-November. I am sure his Indiana Pacers teams would not be popular with all Laker fans because the style of play was too defensive. Still for me it is refreshing to see this kind of play in Laker land. We are seeing a group of guys who play active defense, and a group of guys who have no agenda. It is how Frank said it needed to be, from day 1.

Regardless if it is the right move to win a game we got to think long term with AD's health. We dont want to go the the well too many times.

Once the playoffs start then AD becomes our starting 5

There were so many possessions on offense where I found myself saying "what is this?"

I agree, it doesn't seem they're actually running anything. A lot of standing around and watching.

I'm pleased with the defense though.

With a better offensive scheme, game would've been a blowout in the first half. Lebron bringing up the ball is a huge mistake. Utah wont play this bad again and next time the results will be different if we don't have better play calling/making.

Problem is not vogol. It’s the willingness from AD to play C and LeBron to play PF. They did it last night but will they continue?

Very good stuff indeed! Shows you Vogel is actually out there coaching and understands the adjustment. Seriously last guy to do that was Phil!!

It's so weird to see timeouts called and actually see something happen on the other end. When the other team goes on a run and we call a timeout, we've been so conditioned to think "Ah (bleep), here we go". Now we're coming out of the timeouts and going on counter runs and it's like, oh (bleep), we can do that?

Vogel doesn't have to be Doc Rivers or Phil Jackson. We don't need the most efficient motion flow offense. We just needed a competent coach who can not flat out lose us games that we should be winning. Vogel is at the very least a competent NBA head coach. Luke wasn't.
