And now China is basically trying define our constitution on what counts as freedom of speech and what doesn’t
Also can’t believe there’s people on this forum who are actually ok with being controlled on what to do, what to say, what to read, what to watch, etc. |
It is not bowing down.
It is about respect that the Morey should have had before opening his mouth.
Apparently, Harden, Westbrook and Morey realized that China is more than the problem in HK.
The issues between HK and China does not involve NBA. This matter should be addressed by the politicians since this is a foreign issue.
Not Morey. |
Now Morey has already open his month and closed his month.
What do you want to do now? |

i dont think you can have an agreement with him as he wants open borders and perhaps is sympathetic to a militant left group.
in fact, imo, the open borders people are now the true communists, whereas china 'communists' have gone polar opposite to extreme capitalism (though with central coordination) |
I thought "open borders" was a libertarian ideal? The whole protectionist constraints on the free flow of labor thing. |
i am no expert but i think it refers to complete unfettered flow of people across national borders.
so rich country people take care of the rest of the world |

Neither team in Shanghai -- Lakers or Nets -- has scheduled a morning shootaround. So Thursday is a one trip-to-the-arena assignment in the 4-to-5 AM range Eastern Time for both clubs ... provided the game indeed goes ahead

Not sure why the NBA caters to China anyway. That's a totalitarian regime, horrible human rights record, no free speech, basic information about the world is censored, political prisoners, and has many people in concentration camp environments being tortured, brainwashed and "re-educated". That's the reality of the government the NBA is dealing with.

Businesses tied to China are pretty much beholden to the CCP's whims. Too much to lose in Chinese business. Several posters have pounded on that point repeatedly, making it abundantly, nauseatingly clear for the last day or two, non-stop. Still, those with no specific ties to China could give a crap about whether or not Morey's personal opinion is wrong in the CCP's eyes.
What China has done, by the hysterical reaction to Morey, is etched the Hong Kong protests in the minds of millions of people around the world who otherwise weren't even paying attention. They also serve to legitimize Trump's protectionist stances that otherwise have little support, and would otherwise disappear once he does. Is that the reaction the CCP was seeking?
We have 2 NBA teams in China, along with the Commissioner, on a global stage, with the world watching. Let's hope for a good set of games. |

Pffft, everyone already knows the answer to this. Money.
Big businesses are almost always interested in money first, it's just the way it goes. Big businesses send a portion of their processes off shore where workers can be exploited because it saves them a buck. Do people care that child and forced labor are a part of the chocolate industry? Do people care the stadiums for the FIFA world cup in Qatar are being built using slave labor?
A billion potential NBA supporters in China? Of course they're going to push hard for the market. "But human rights abuses" - businesses don't care. |

It's not going to matter. Apart from potentially America, and even here America are reluctant, the international community won't get involved. There's no appetite for it, especially when Hong Kong is a part of China and therefore it's a domestic matter. |

China market is like 10-20% of NBA revenue now and project to be even bigger in the future. Every US industry does business in china, every single one. Should they all boycott china? I mean china has done the same thing for decades and everybody still does business with them, what’s different now? HK protest? |

you should read about the Belt and Road initiative. china has basically 'procured' the support of most of the world's third world countries, including asia, africa. that is probably why not a single muslim country has complained about the camps in xinjiang.
lets hope they play the game and the team is well taken care of in china. |

Per AccessSportsnet - Billboards and posters advertising the game are being taken down, shoot around cancelled, etc
BUT they’re still “expecting” to play. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But listening to them talk it’s not an “expecting them to play” because they expect to play, but because no one has said anything otherwise. In fact they keep describing the situation as being “fluid”. |

To play in front of an empty stadium or canceling the game completely. I wonder which would be worse... |

Yep, and now there are instances of fans showing up to NBA games supporting the HK movement in Philadelphia and Washington D.C.....this would have never happened had the CCP never drawn attention to it in the first place. That kind of crap probably works in China, but not in the USA. |

I don't like this. We've got an older squad that needs to warm up before games, we don't want Lebron or Rondo pulling a hamstring or something. Pull the plug, see if an arena is open in Spain or something, fly the teams over there for one game and bring them home. |

Just bring them home TBH. The Lakers want no part of what's happening in China, or the China vs NBA squabble that's going on. |

here i will agree with them. it does something. it gets the vulture politicians all ready to pounce. there will be more and more political pressure. not that it will change what china does, but it makes it harder and harder on the companies forced to navigate the minefield. both sides threaten the companies and in the end they end up with less profit while nothing is achieved. |
