LeBron James said "only time will tell" what the ramifications and fallout will be over the situation between China and the NBA. James also said that any concerns the players had over Daryl Morey's tweet should stay behind closed doors. James did say that he didn't think Morey was educated on the situation before tweeting and that everyone should be careful before speaking and tweeting. He says that he believes Morey was misinformed or not educated before he tweeted.

Ain't nothing wrong with that! He's just trying to secure that Chinese money bag!

Well, things are going to go wrong for him after this. Morey wasn't being selfish by re-tweeting his support for HK. Lebron is being selfish for defending China's reaction to it. He's scared of losing money.

I hope we stick to the basketball discussion for this thread.

After all this, only the rockets is ban. The end result is that the Lakers are once again the team for Chinese NBA fans (it's been the lakers after MJ until Yao).

only negative is potentially less cap room in the future. Let's hope it's not too bad.

Dang Bron... he can't help himself. Sounds like Bron is the one not educated because if you were, then you want to stay on the low low.

You really must not have watched LeBron too closely throughout his career.

That's written using the exact terminology that the chinese propaganda machine uses, "not educated on the situation", so it was probably written for him by some sort of pr person.

As someone mentioned, no NBA superstar is going to publicly take the side of the HK protesters, that'll affect their bottom line. It's easy to criticize the LGBT restroom law in North Carolina a few years back or criticize Trump, criticizing China's policies is a whole other ball game.

You'll only find out whether the person has principles on the 3rd one as its when they are putting something on the line. Being virtuous when nothing is risked is no virtue at all.

Incorrect. Virtue relates to morality, bravery relates to virtue when faced with consequences.

It's as stupid for Chinese basketball fans to be angry over Morey's tweet as it was for NFL fans to burn their Nikes because Kaepernick got an endorsement deal after being railroaded out of football. Lebron just gets more money from mainland Chinese fans than he does from Fox News viewers.

It's a poor look, but the man deals with enough domestic issues already and almost every conservabro hooplehead going after him for his hypocrisy are bad faith grifters.

Love watching the people who support the concentration camps at our border complain about China's human rights abuses. It's hilarious.

Ted suffers a papercut from one of his many C-notes (a medical emergency) and Virgil whisks him to the ER where he buys the staff's attention over the hurt/injured peons who need surgery.

Incarcerating people who have broken a law by illegally entering a country is very different than the government incarcerating people whose only crime is that they opposed said government. This is one of areas where Western Democracies are superior to Communist regimes. Lots of writing and books about the subject if anyone is interested in history.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/adam-silver-chinese-government-asked-195423268.html

Chinese government asked to fire Morey, echoing the thoughts of the pro-CCP loyalists in the Lebron thread. This isn't just about money but also control, if the NBA lets a foreign government dictate how they run their league, then the owners and execs in the NBA office have less power than we think.

^Thanks lakersken80 - the Adam Silver quotes from Sean Gregory's Time article:

Sean Gregory - Time.Com wrote:

During the first TIME 100 Health Summit on Thursday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said that he’s willing to deal with the business consequences of Daryl Morey’s Oct. 4 tweet supporting protesters in Hong Kong. The Houston Rockets general manager angered the Chinese government and caused Chinese sponsors to pull away from the NBA during two exhibition games there last week.

Silver said the league is “not only willing” to cope with losses of millions in revenues, “but we are. The losses have already been substantial. Our games are not back on the air in China as we speak, and we’ll see what happens next.”

“I don’t know where we go from here,” said Silver in his first U.S. interview about the league’s emerging conflict with China since he returned home from the country. “The financial consequences have been and may continue to be fairly dramatic.

Funny thing is I want to criticize China but Trump locking up 50,000 Asylum seekers and immigrants puts us in similar territory as the Muslim re-education camps in China

We haven't started harvesting organs from prisoners yet but we sure have killed a lot of middle easterners.

China hasn't unleashed its military power anywhere yet.. just money..a lot of it

They purchased 2.5 million acres in Russia when Trump introduced farm tariffs and large portions of South America are becoming Chinese Farm land with them building giant railways and such

The long game..

The leaders probably don't appreciate the citizens wasting time watching spectator sports anyways.
