This game was a loss for the Big 12. Oklahoma doesn't look good and Baylor choked.
Now, Big 12 needs Oklahoma to beat Baylor again to have a shot at the playoffs. |

will not be surprised if the next game is not close....especially if Ceedee Lamb is playing.....but Oklahoma will still need help. They play TCU next week and Oklahoma State to finish season. Not bad teams, but not wins that will move the needle. I think the big problem for Oklahoma is if Baylor loses against Texas next weekend and shows up to the Big 12 Championship as a 2 loss team ranked in the 20's. |

Worst thing for Oklahoma is for Georgia to beat LSU in the SEC title game.
Aside from that, it's going to be LSU, Clemson, and Big 10 winner.
Then it's going to be between Oklahoma vs. Pac 12 winner.
Oklahoma probably doesn't need help to get in over the Pac 12 winner. |

I think Oklahoma or the PAC12 winner would lose to any of those above 3 teams....but then again, I am wrong about half the time. |

Per RealTimeRPI, the AAC is a stronger (higher RPI) conference than 2 of the 5 Power 5 conferences to this point this season.
1. SEC
2. Big10
3. Big12
4. AAC
5. PAC12
6. ACC
7. Mountain West
I find this interesting. What if the AAC finishes the next 2 or 3 years with a higher RPI than 1 or more P5 conferences? How does the CFB continue to justify the advantages given to the Power 5 conferences?
It gives some credibility to a playoff structure that was presented last year. Keep the playoff at 4 teams, and the slots go to the 4 conference champions of the Power 4 conferences. The 4 conferences identified in this group would change on a 3 year rolling promotion and relegation model. |

I've explained this before. The Power 5 conferences are not power conferences because of the strength of the average teams in the conferences. They are power conferences because they have the elite teams. Barring unusual circumstances, those are the only teams that matter for the playoff. So it really doesn't matter if some metric ranks the American over the ACC. The only ACC team that matters for playoff purposes is Clemson (at least this year). |

that is simply formulating a "why" based off of the results. If what you are saying was accurate that would mean if Clemson left the ACC tomorrow, the ACC would lose their P5 status....or if they joined the AAC, the AAC would gain P5 status. It is simply not true....a conference with Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia are not going to be in a 2nd tier conference with or without Clemson. |

No, that's not what I said. That was the point of the parenthetical at the end of my post. A particular elite program isn't going to a playoff contender every year. But the power conferences have the elite programs. The ACC is not an power conference because it has Syracuse. It's a power conference because it has four or five programs that have been elite over the last 25 years. The other ten or so programs are along for the ride, though in a particular year they could go on a run (like Georgia Tech did the year it beat Nebraska and shared the national championship with Colorado). This is true for all of the power conferences. The SEC isn't a power conference because it has Vanderbilt and Kentucky. |

This week, it's the Mean Green with red faces. The War Owls of Rice take a twenty point lead in the first half and just toy with their prey for the rest of the day. Final score: Rice 20, North Texas 14.
Now Rice goes to the Sun Bowl in El Paso for the long-awaited grudge match with UTEP. The Miners had better wear their hard hats. |

Loving those West Carolina / Alabama and Samford / Auburn matchups late in the season. It's great for college football. |

they always pretend if they do not get a cream puff right before the Iron Bowl, they just can't make it through that game....just another excuse to add an auto win to the schedule |

USC won the rivalry game against UCLA, but it could've also be counted as a loss since its likely Clay Helton keeps his job for another year.....and they will probably qualify for something like the Holiday Bowl, Sun Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, etc... |

USC put up 50+ points, and their freshman quarterback threw for over 500 yards. It wasn't a pretty year, but with all the quarterback and running back injuries, 8-4 with quality wins against Utah and Stanford. A win in the postseason, and its a top-20 finish. Not elite, but better than originally forecast. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

That should put a fork in Oregon's long shot hopes at the CFB playoffs. |

USC is stuck where they are ranked but not bad enough where there is an urgent need for a coaching change. |

Great day for Alabama with Oregon losing and Oklahoma in trouble. This might propel Alabama into the playoffs.
1) LSU
2) Ohio St
3) Clemson
4) Alabama/Georgia/Oklahoma/Utah |

If Utah slips up tonight (which looks unlikely) or next week against Colorado, USC would go to the PAC12 Championship game and a chance to get to Rose Bowl |
