Agree with getting a Firestick. If you have a friend or relative with DirecTV or cable, ask if they can "lend" you their account info. Then you can put all the network apps (espn, hbo, sho, amc, tnt, tbs, fx, mtv etc.) on it and watch shows and movies.

I have the Stick. I know a friend who has a bootleg stick. He's seen Shaft 2019 already. (blush) Watched it with him. Good movie as far as Shafts go.

I play the special package game. I got DirectTV for 2 years at $39 a month. That expired so I got Spectrum yesterday for a year at $45 a month. And I will shop around a year from now.

I have a few friends who do that. That’s too much work for me lol

It was for me too. Since we had TWC before DirectTV the house was already wired so they sent me the self install equipment. It took me half the day.

I have a firestick. I'm still with cable because there is so much buffering. I also have NitroTV. It streams the latest movies.

I have Spectrum high speed internet and my Fire Stick/TV is about 20 feet from my modem. I have no buffering issues.

Of course you have Bufferin. It’s right next to your geritol. But what’s that got to do with streaming?

Nothing. Just as it has nothing to do with you being a (Y)

I wonder if more people will be doing this without live sports. What does ESPN even show anymore?

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but since my question seems in line with the overall topic:

My smart Tv is now about 4 years old and LG disabled the Hulu app on it.

So I looked into s Firestick, but all the reviews say Hulu is problematic on it.

So I'm looked into ROKU and there does not appear to be any issues with it.

Keep in mind, I have Direct TV and am happy with it, I just want to watch Hulu on my 65" TV as opposed to sitting in my office watching it on a computer screen.

So my question is: Anyone have any comments/tips on the Roku devices?

(thanks)

Roku is my device. I don't have a 4k TV so mine is the older version (3, I think). Yes, it has Hulu. I don't subscribe, but just flicked it on now and it loaded fine.

NitroTV switched servers to Eminence. It's great. You get all PPV sporting events, Sunday Ticket, League Pass, HBO, Showtime, Max,Starz,Flix, Epix and other such entities, and so much more. Cost $26.00 a month. It sometimes freezes and buffers but I call Nitro and they usually get it fixed mo hicky tick.
They also have movies still in the theater. I just watched The Rise of Skywalker, Queen and Slim and others. They have new releases, old movies, I could go on and on.

For me, the Amazon Fire Stick works great but only because I have access to a code for all the channels due to a family member who subscribes to everything.

I have codes through NitroTv/Eminence. Who's your streaming entity? Do you get PPV fights and movies, League Pass, Sunday Ticket and all the stations I mentioned in the post above?

No I don't get the PPV, League Pass or Sunday ticket as my family member doesn't pay for those.

I do get everything in their premium package (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, etc) through their premium package but through the apps that I load on the Firestick. It is a bit of a pain to switch from app to app, so it isn't like having regular tv but of course the price is right and my family member doesn't use online access and is fine with me doing so.

So everything is coming through their provider which is Frontier, but of course I still need to have high speed internet to make it work. That is where the cable companies have really wised up, they have made internet more and more expensive (if you don't bundle which cord cutters don't) to still make their money and punish the cord cutters like me.

What we really need is better internet service provider options.

NitroTV/Eminence is a streaming service. They have just about about everything. I pay $26.00 a month. For another 30 they'll add xxx. They put the tease on when you first order the service. It's explicit, they don't leave out a thing. I watched the first night free. I don't have the channel.

That sounds pretty cool. Are you saying the $25 includes all the PPV items and such that you mentioned?

That might be worth it for me and I am not shy about finding bargains!

As the title says I need to get rid of cable. I'm tired of giving them the level of money I give them considering how little I actually watch tv outside of sports. I wanted to ask fellow sports folks the best options for cord cutting while still being able to watch live sports.

Resources and advices greatly appreciated

I know there are market issues, blackouts, etc., but if you are talking about live sports on cable like ESPN, Fox Sports, etc., I used the Hulu live service for a while and it was solid for the price.

**or you can always do the Ebay Amazon Firestick with Kodi option, and get basically everything globally with no monthly fee.

If it is just for you, the Firestick option is great.....but if you have kids or elderly people in the home, it can be a challenge to navigate for some people.

Thanks kindly.

The Firestick/Roku/alladat is completely foreign to me so I'm researching all of that. I shall look into ye Firestick.

And then I've heard YouTube's tv thing is great for sports, I've heard Sling is... So yeah. I'm checking into all of that.

Disclosure: I'm under control for NBA games unless something happens to that option (Hehe), but I want to figure out how to access NBATV if at all possible, and then there are other sports I watch as well (and some other TV but I'm most concerned about losing mah sports! lol)

If you are considering a Firestick then the website Troypoint has a lot of information.
