You have to remember that in 2000, West and Phil Jackson were in a bitter battle for power within the organization. Dr. Buss ultimately sided with Phil...largely because of his relationship with Jeannie.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that he harbors a grudge. He's shown time and time again that he still harbors a grudge against Lakers ownership from his playing days.
He feels like he's been treated unfairly by the Lakers as an organization most of his professional career.

Just the fact that he was willing to come back and Jeanie thought it best that the Lakers "move on from the past" shows total immaturity from her part. _________________ "Nobody hates the good ones. They hate the great ones." - KB

Fair point but why did the Warriors want to move on from West?

I like how Jerry got all the credit for KD.
True or not, how did that feel, Bob?
It's going to be interesting to see how Lawrence handles West getting the cred.

The story goes that the Warriors signed West in 2011 for his credibility and expertise to support new GM Bob Myers. By 2016, Myers had become a respected GM and the Warriors didn't feel West was needed so much.
So the owner wanted to cut his compensation from $2 million to $1 million. West didn't like that, so he moved on. I don't think it's a slam on West, as much as their feeling they no longer needed a high-priced consultant.
At this point, Jerry is an expensive turnaround specialist. So once the franchise turns around, it moves on.

Have the Clips turned it around yet? Celtics look like they need some help. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

West is one of the first to give Frank credit. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

So as a player he felt he was treated unfairly, yet he continues working for the Lakers and ultimately the GM? If he felt the Lakers were unfair to him why would he want to come back? Then a statue was built for him...

In fairness West has always felt underappreciated. From his playing days, to his days in the front offices around the NBA. When he found himself available after the Warriors gig, the Lakers really should have hired him. The fact that they didn't just adds to the turmoil.
True statement.
Lakers blew it.
Instead of West, we have the Rambi.
JOKE.
NO. He receives too much credit for the work of others. I'm told Clipper FA success is all about Lawrence Frank. Warriors were happy to be rid of him from what I hear. And regardless, Lakers under Phil treated him like crap - what is he supposed to say?
Having him in the organization is simply better than not having him.
When Kawhi met the Clippers, Jerry was there.
He would have been the ideal figure head.
For the Lakers meeting, it was only Jeanie and Pelinka. What a joke.
Plus, Jerry knows a lot of people and his opinion is valuable.
When the Hawks were looking to fill their office, they approached Jerry West.
Who do we have?
The Rambis and Pelinka.
The Lakers cache can only help us so much.
Jerry knows how to create the best competitive team with the perfect role players.
I finally had a chance to hear the context of what Jerry West said. And you know what, as much as I love and appreciate everything that he’s done for the franchise, I would never allow him to come back. The way that he said it was a definite shot at the franchise and with the temperature in the room of the media trying to flip the narrative and make the Lakers look a certain way and the Clippers to be the model franchise, it was extremely petty for him to go out of his way to try and pile on. Since he loves the Clippers so much, let his ass stay right there.

He had no problem as a player.
West was a loyal person.
He loved the lakers.
That is why he played for them , coached and eventually became the GM/president for this organization.
During his time as GM, he was the man.
After his time with the Grizzles and Warriors, he expressed interest to come back.
Unfortunately, Jeannie was an idiot. She had the Rambi.

The poster I quoted said he had problems since his playing days. Hence my response. _________________ Formerly OC Lakerfan
I don't recall any time where Jerry West took all the credit for any move in some ego-driven rant. That's never been his personality. He once got upset at a reporter asking a question about how lopsided the Divac-Bryant trade was because it was an indirect attack on a friend of his.
I'm not mad at JW. He wanted to come back. He still bleeds purple and gold imo. But he's also the consummate professional and he knows how to shine a warm light on any organization he goes to.
I've been saying for years that not bringing him back was idiotic and would come back to bite us. I said it the first time around when Jeannie said no, and the 2nd time when Magic turned him away. It was stupid. But of course everyone said "they're the Clippers lol". The man has the midas touch. Any FO with West on it is a legitimate FO.
This is just like when Doc Rivers sucked up to Kawaii and said he's the closest thing to Michael Jordan... conveniently leaving out the player who was the closest thing to Jordan, Kobe Bean Bryant.
Similarly, Jerry West is sucking up to the multi-billionaire who is cutting his large pay-checks and selling the Dippers to other FAs/staff/execs they might be targeting... conveniently leaving out the organization that is actually the best one he's ever been with, the Lakers.

Jerry was a depressed old man in 2001, can’t imagine now with 18 more years under his belt. Seems super bitter too. Hope he finds happiness in his golden years. Almost like he got jealous when Jeannie was dating Phil..weird.

pretty much
Cool, take the money, and stay your a$$ right over there. Pat Riley left the Lakers under same type of conditions, and to this day, he hasn’t taken one shot through the media at the Lakers. Jerry is acting like that young girl that lost there boyfriend and is now sullying his name to anybody that would listen knowing fully well that if that ex boyfriend would take her back, she would drop everything and go back to him in a heartbeat. That’s super lame!
Jerry West is the best to ever do it. He wanted to come back here and we declined. He has the right to dunk on us whenever he wants. _________________ 14-5-3-12

Serious question, do you think that the Lakers are a top 5 organization? _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Generally, yes. I'm basing this opinion on metrics such as value/revenue power, historical achievements, and power rankings for next year.

Probably this. Even if he thinks the Lakers' organizational structure was a bit crazy (probably true with a gambling, playboy owner), it's hard to believe the Warriors weren't more sound than an objective emotional trainwreck like Balmer.
