Despite the fact that Kawhi would have been nice, there is a good chance he’s gonna decline in the next couple of years due to injuries so we might dodge a bullet.
between DeMar, Kawhi, Paul George and Russell Westbrook we sure have a lot of LA Boys who never came to the Lakers. I guess what Kobe said is right.
They wanted LA sunshine, but not the heat of the expectations here.
This is why I appreciate LBJ/AD more.
Same. And Kuz seems to love being a Laker. And Cook, who is living out his father's dream as a Laker and grew up a diehard Laker fan. Some players just aren't built for the spotlight of being a Laker.
Not in the thread's parameters, but should Boozer count as a guy we tried to push all chips in for? Not talking about the 1 yr stint, we knew he sucked then and he was paid as such. Talkin 2005, Jack Haley. We almost got Booze stuck to our shoes for the longterm in 05. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
outside of people we drafted and traded for, who are the top FA's that we've signed in the past 30-40 years? Shaq and LeBron right? That speaks volumes to what kind of players Shaq and LeBron are to be honest.
How's Hassan Whiteside been? I don't hear his name much so I assume he's been average at best? We were definitely offering the max as well.
The Knicks signed Amare Stoudemire and then Melo. Now they've finally wised up about Durant and decided not to offer him the max. I think it's a smart move. I wouldn't want Durant on the Lakers for max as well. We'll see. _________________ LeGoat! LeMazing! LeGend!

At one point I wrote at length about this. The Lakers have been fortunate that they've only had to pay top dollars to the best of the best. And even when they had to pay top dollar to the next tiers such as Worthy and Pau Gasol, they had one of the top players in the game to pair them up with like Magic and Kobe. Their money has always gone to championships. They've never had to pay max money to 2nd and 3rd tier stars like the rest of the league just to "compete." But since 2014, we've been trying to do that, or "needing" to do that. We were about to be just like the rest of the league, paying top dollars to 2nd and 3rd tier stars. So "dodging" the bullet is absolutely true. PG13 never averaged more than 23 in his career, then all of a sudden had his first dominant scoring season last year. I think he can fall back to earth next year. Kawhai is the true alpha that we missed out on, but he is also mired in all these injury mysterious.
Though Lebron is no longer what he once was, we've been able to pair him up with AD who is the most talented player in the league. We're fortunate to still be continuing the tradition of paying for only the top tier talents in the game after several years of trying to give money away to lower tiers.
