I don't understand signing yet another small guard, but if Bradley gets any real playing time and plays well, maybe this could make one or two of our other guards expendable and allow us to trade them for a 3-and-D athletic forward.

I'd rather have Bradley than Westbrook.

How is Westbrook any better (for this particular Lakers team) than Bradley?

Russ is the better rebounder, but Bradley is a better defender and shooter. And we need rebounding and shooting more than Russ's assists, because Avery can run the offense, along with Lebron. Yes, RB is the better rebounder. But we Dwight now, and AD, and Lebron for rebounding.

I don't understand why Westbrook is on this Lakers team.

I kinda like it. AB was Killin it before the pandemic. Hope he can get some of that magic back.

I know we are guard heavy but 3d players of any position are always welcome. Low risk move

At least this year won't be the year where point guards kill us.

IMO Avery was decent but a bit overrated during his time for the Lakers and we actually played better when he was out as it gave more minutes to KCP and Caruso to get into a rhythm who are clearly better players

This is a somewhat bizarre move, considering our glut of guards..

on the other hand, they did claim him off waivers, which means he's covered by the contract that he signed with GSW. That contract was non-guaranteed.
Someone that's a CBA expert could clarify, but I believe that means his deal with LAL is also non-guaranteed.

if not, I'd suspect some of these guards might end up as trade bait when the window opens.
----------------------
adding an update - Pincus clarified the contract status

"Avery is a non-guaranteed summer contract (an Exhibit 9 which is moot once the season starts) - his $ guarnatees Jan 10 (but needs to be waived by Jan 7, if cut)"

He's a plug and play until Monk, THT, Nunn, and Wayne are back. Maybe he lasts a few months but unless he's so good that waiving him isn't an option, he's getting cut soon.

Simple enough Bazemore and Bron get more sf minutes with bother Tucker and Ariza out 6-8 weeks. Russ and Melo are big enough to slide down there too.

With Wayne, Monk, Nunn all hurt AD pretty much gets a shot at guard along with Rondo and Frank which he should be familiar with. It’s the best spot for him even after he left them high and dry

Why!? We need a wing, not another small guard. I like AB, but I don’t see how he moves the needle unless we are expecting Nunn and Monk to fall flat on their faces while THT and Ellington are out for months.

Such a surprising move. I fear he's washed from injury, but if he can reproduce his best moments from his previous stint with consistency, I'd be thrilled to have him.

Dwight, Rondo, AB
Melo for Markieff
DeAndre for JaVale
Bazemore for AC
Kuz… not sure who Bron back up is, Ariza?

We back to the old blue print

Right before the Lakers entered the bubble in 2020, and Bradley opted to remain at home, I remember thinking the Lakers couldn't possibly win the title without him and with Rondo having to take his minutes.

And then Rondo turned out to be the third best player on the team in those same playoffs.

But if you remember the way Rondo played during that 2019-20 regular season, he was washed, and Bradley was often our most reliable guard ahead of Green, KCP and Caruso

Crazy that was just a little over one calendar year ago.

That championship team won on defense though with that guard rotation (AB, Green, KCP, Caruso) and the biggest frontline in the league (Dwight/Javale, AD, and Bron). I hope Vogel and co never forget that.

Avery Bradley is on a non-guaranteed deal so I can see the Lakers waiving him once Talen Horton-Tucker and Trevor Ariza get healthy. It would cost the Lakers $7M in combined payroll and luxury tax expenses if Bradley becomes guaranteed and finishes the season with them.

We’re gonna play a lot of 3 guard lineups.
Not surprised Vogel did this stuff a lot in year 1 and even in year 2.

Kerr said Warriors were 100% vaccinated a couple weeks ago (once Wiggins got it), so seems like Bradley did. He played preseason without any concern

This part is key. They have until early January to waive him without taking the tax hit
