Remember this tweet on the day after Lakers were able to clear $32 million cap space to peruse Kawhi:

https://twitter.com/ramonashelburne/status/1144722960709611520?s=20

Quote:
Magic Johnson says “A friend of mine called and says Kawhi wants to meet with you,” Johnson told ESPN. “I said no problem. I’m available if that’s what this man wants.

“But I got a great life. I’m not trying to mess with anybody’s job.”

Magic goes to Ramona so he could leak that Kawhi wanted to meet him.

After meeting with Kawhi’s camp, Magic then leaked to Brad Turner what he and Kawhi’s all talked about, enough to write a whole article’s worth.

https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-rumors-kawhi-leonard-asked-magic-johnson-if-la-tried-to-trade-for-him-when-he-was-with-the-spurs/

Magic’s loud mouth from thrashing former young Lakers to going on First Take and airing our dirty Landry to leaking specific details on free agency meetings have really put a damper on us.

Given the way everything unfolded, I think it's safe to say Kawhi never wanted to come all along. Probably just didn't want to join "Lebron's team". Magic being blabbermouth is a net negative, but likely didn't affect his decision.

Magic's going to get a lot of hate, but this is on Kawhi for doing us dirty (which was his plan from the start) and on the FO for allowing it to happen/go this far.

But the premise of this thread isn't if kawhi was gonna sign, it's magic taking credit for the signing if it did happen backfired.

Can’t disagree here - magic is a big mouth who while he can draw people in has shown can equally peeve them off

I agree. He never wanted to play with lebron. In hindsight it would have been much better if lebron never tried to recruit him by calling him during the playoffs. I understand you have to make an attempt, but someone should have told him to not even bother the guy and perhaps Kawhi would have never asked for a meeting, which would have let us know he didn't want to come here and we could have got better players to fill out the roster. lebrons desire to always have a stacked team backfired on him again.

P.S. Looks like we just signed Quinn Cook...whoever that is.

ONE of Magic's problem is that he takes people for their word. They reached out to Magic FIRST and set him up as the scapegoat!

Uncle Buck and KL hoodwinked, baboozled and flat out lied.

In the long run karma will come back to bite them and the flippers.

They may have been irritated by the leak but I doubt that was a deal breaker. They're turning it into an excuse to distract the people from the truth that they were aiming for the clippers all along and we were their plan-C at best.

Might as well throw this in here:

We didn't trade for George - he didn't sign with us
We didn't trade for Kawhi - he didn't sign with us

We traded for AD - hopefully, he re-signs with us next season.

No hate here, just being real. Magic has consistently done more harm than good since November 7, 1991. That blind fans, and evidently the Buss family don't see that is silly an annoyance to many of us.

Just increase the size of the statue's head to update it to 2019 scale.

Biggest Magic fan when he was a player (even when he got coach fired). Since then, not so much.

it was dumb on Magics part but lets get real that is not why Kawhi didnt sign. We were always plan B and he was stalling to see if the Clippers could get another star.

Magic’s offseason that started a few minutes before our last game ... wow ... what a dumpster fire. And he’ll have no regrets about anything. Good news is he’s no longer making decisions. I can’t imagine Jeanie would have ever fired him.

Unfortunately, because Pelinka is still the GM, Magic’s garbage will still reek up the place by association.

Kawhi didn't come because he was afraid of being #3 on the team. His uncle just wanted a pass to chat Magic up.
