Durant suffered a torn Achilles, Klay a torn acl, and are both FAs. If they both stayed, one is never the same player again and will probably hardly play next season if he even does come back, the other one might but would still be very late into next season. And Curry once again, a fraud in the playoffs.

Very weird circumstances overall, but the West is now open. Looks like LeGM is gonna go full hard on Pelinka to get that AD done within these next 48 hours or so. Which means everybody is probably gone now.

Interesting times ahead.

We should roll with our core and Bron this year, they can compete as is, just add some vets on 1 year deals. No need to trade, no need to max a B level player. Keep cap space for AD in 2020

I just posted the same thing in the playoff thread . Warriors are out next season. We can compete with Lebron/AD/Bonga trio.

We really need to make the AD trade and ride that. Sorry but BI and Zo haven't even proven they can play a full season, let alone a deep playoff run.

So agree with this, we don't need to mortgage our future for AD anymore as the west is wide open. A healthy squad, which adds Garland with the #4 can compete with anybody in the west. Stay the course, go for Kawhi or Kyrie and if not make smart signings, what you don't do at this point is go all in and trade the whole team for Davis. That would be completely idiotic at this point.
I do expect a team like Houston to go all out to get Davis now.

If we keep Kuzma throughout this, we would be fine especially with having enough space to sign Kawhi in the process.

???
Kawhi/Hart
Kuzma
Lebron
Davis

Fill out the rest with smart signings and were set for quite a while.

The Davis trade isn't happening, it never was. The worst thing we can do now is panic and F up our cap with a max guy who isn't really a max guy.

Draft Garland, sign some good role players/shooters on 1 year deals, and get AD next year. The West is weak enough for us to compete.

West was wide open the moment KD went down.

Only difference now is Warriors aren’t among the playoffs, which is what I predicted after KDs injury.

Remind me of the time AD made a deep playoff run.

Disagree.

This is precisely why you go more all in right now. At the least you sign a max FA, but trading for AD becomes more defensible IMO (especially if you can keep one of BI/Zo/#4).

What do you even do now if you’re the Warriors? Do you just tank next season?

If anything, they need a year off like what LBJ had this year. No reason to go balls to the walls with a depleted team. You'll just get Steph/Iggy/Dray hurt.

Not sure they want to do that first year in the new stadium. I think still good enough to a lower seed and hoping Klay comes back by playoffs.

I think it’s their only option. Gear up for a run in 20-21.

It seems like they need Iggy and Draymond.

At least playoff Draymond for sure.

Any team with Steph Curry is good enough to get into the playoffs.

Depends. Now they have razor thin margins. If he gets an ankle injury then boom you have an LBJ-Lakers season, even with Dray in the mix.

Not so sure we should be so quick to write off the Warriors.

Ownership is willing to spend the money to open up the new building with the best roster possible. The players are emotionally invested. The roster and situation may be appealing for a quality role playing vet or two to be willing to sacrifice some money.

Going to be real interesting to see if (and how) they can keep the band together.

As for the Lakers needing to strike now. Really? IMO the projected completely overhauled Lakers roster with a Davis trade is not running the table in the playoffs. Besides the motivated Warriors team they still need to get past the Nuggets, Rockets, Thunder, Blazers teams. All serious contenders that will be fine tuning their rosters.

Lakers keep trying to force a square peg in a round hole. I wish them luck.

We can beat those teams. It's simply disingenuous to think that a LBJ/AD/3rd max or LBJ/AD/one of BI/Zo/#4, or LBJ/AD/30m in cap space can't beat those teams. We've gotten so accustomed to think negatively about the Lakers that we can't fathom to think positively for once. I for one am very optimistic about this team going forward.

Agree can't write them off
But if KD opts in and Klay is maxed they can't sign anyone on for more than the minimum their lux tax bill will be in the billions of KD is extended at max

You can't write them off, but there is no way they are favorites to win next year.

Klay will need a year to come back from his ACL injury.

KD may be gone, or if he stays, will need a year plus for his Achilles.

Boogie likely gone for most money.

Iggy/Livingston/Steph/Dray another year older. I can see them easing the throttle after a great run.
