There’s a sense of purpose and structure that has been missing for a long time — I am coming around on this as well. The defense has been a sight to behold.

Rick Carlisle said Frank Vogel has adapted to his new roster and structured things around his players, which are signs of an “excellent coach.” In short, the coaches that are really good are the ones that adapt to their personnel.

Sounds right.

I read the post and I immediately knew who it was. And yes, you’re right. Vogel is already the better coach and he didn’t have to do much to get there.

Sounds right.

And the main reason I am happy that guys like MDA are employed somewhere else.

This is exactly why I feel Mike D'Antoni is a terrible coach. He plays one system and when our personnel with Pau and Dwight didn't fit that system, he still played that system. It's a great system for Phoenix with their personnel, but it was terrible for us... and he didn't know how to adapt.

Dwight said that was the play twice on Lakers Talk at the 37 min mark. Credit goes to Vogel.

I don't find myself screaming "what the hell is he doing?" at the coach like I'm used to for the last 6 years. It's an odd feeling when I just have to focus on the players and execution without feeling like the coach is blowing the game. The offense is still a work in progress, but we have a real coach.

Closing unit of DH/AD/Lebron/Green/Bradley is exactly what I would have used. I love when coaches and I think alike. He's definitely a smart coach. Not making stupid decisions.

The Mavs really made the cardinal sin of leaving wing guys open when up by 3 but we'll take it.

We can thank Dwight "McGrabby Hands" Howard for that open look

Oh, I totally missed that. Had to watch the replay. Now I know why the Mavs complained about the refs.

I’m not crazy about playing AD and Lebron over 40 minutes at this point in the season.

A sign of a true title contender and elite coaching is making adjustments at the half, as the 3rd quarter is when you tighten things up and see how your team will respond out of the locker room. The team amps up the defense to another level in the 2nd half and goes on huge scoring runs in the 3rd quarter, which carries over for the rest of the game. Through 5 games, they have made that huge scoring run in the 3rd quarter and can lock teams up for long stretches on defense.

LeBron teams usually would be difficult to give any coach credit with LeBron on the team since everything is LeBron centric like with Ty Lue, Blatt, Luke, etc. But, with Vogel this is HIS defense you saw with the Pacers on another level with LeBron & AD that make up any faults that Vogel may have had on offense in the past. He has LeBron playing All-Defensive 1st team level on defense, which you haven't seen since probably 2012-13, so Bron has bought in already. Lakers will go through a bad run or some type of losing streak later on in the season, so will be the true test for Vogel in the regular season when it gets even tougher. So far it's crazy how easy the transition has been. Vogel can still run his smashmouth defense and on offense he added a modern variation of a 5 out offense mixed with pick n rolls like the Bucks do with Giannis and LeBron had with the Cav's, and that's the formula needed so far with Bron & AD.

The Lakers were down by 10 at the half and by 9 after the third. If anything they adjusted in the 4th.

Same but we legitamitely have the ability to go 10-1. Not saying it will happen but we should try to get a jump on the rest of the west while we can.

It's not like every team is going to be the Mavs, so I think we can get those minutes back down.

+1.
Im also concerned about LBJ minutes creeping up.
Its nice to see him have these games, but the seasons a marathon and our team has to build that killer instinct out the gate and put teams away early.
Especially with the easier schedule we have in the 1st 20 games.

If Danny Green could have hit a four instead of a three they would have played 5 minutes less (38 each).

I'm good with them topping 40 minutes in OT games. Once we get Kuz fully integrated and the offense fully installed, I don't expect either of them to play more than 35 minutes per game, which would be a career low for LeBron and on the lower end for AD.

I'm ok with LeBron playing ~40 mins in OT especially since he's been averaging only 32 mpg the first 4 games.
