Very sad. Doesn't seem like they've made any progress.

The inaccessibility of the Cathedral makes fighting the fire very difficult. It sits on a island.

Wonder why God didn't just conjure up a Flash Thunderstorm to put the blaze out at one of his houses?

Sounds like logistically it is very difficult get a handle on. It's basically a giant kiln.

Today's technology will probably be able to rebuild the Cathedral but it won't be able to restore it's originality. MSNBC reporting the wealthy's of the world have already began to fund a restoration.

A little over 25 years ago, Windsor Castle was extensively damaged by a similar fire. Now, Windsor isn't quite the icon and architectural wonder that Notre Dame is and there is no replacing the original wood work and items of history in either structure, they were able to rebuild in sufficient fashion to keep the original core and feel of the Castle.

Notre Dame will never be what it was, bit one hopes they can restore it to something worthy of continuing its character.

hey...that's nothing. I was working at the Stardust in 1980 a few of us dealers went outside at about 8am to see the smoke rising over the MGM and I said 'looks big...hope they have plenty of marshmallows' ...finished my shift at noon to find out the body count was 77

moral of the story? get your distasteful jokes in early before the body count rises

Can't say I care much about the catholic church but this fire is horrible. More importantly I hope no one got hurt though.

So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!

Oh (bleep)! Why didn't anyone else think of that?!

I can never read Trump tweets without imagining Alec Baldwin impersonating him.

Money or technology can't replace that craftmanship and skills that were utilized long time ago to build this intricate building. Look at the details of the building.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de_Paris
The people who built this building are long gone, and I doubt there are much people around with the skill set today.

I'm the same, but with me the tweets read in my head with the voice of BoomHauer from King of the Hill...

I saw a docu on that 1980 MGM fire before. Iirc, it spread because they didn't think it was a good idea to put fire sprinklers in the kitchen and main floor casino because any fire would surely be put out in time down there. Nope. The only parts that were gutted were all those that didn't have the sprinklers. They also had the habit of locking doors in the escape stairs due to security concerns, so some of those souls got to an escape door thinking hallelujah and then they tried the knob. That fire was a game changer to this day for the casinos on The Strip.

I don't know that even much of New York would be shook.
