Wow. Good lord, are we seriously resorting to this stuff?

It's a Salary Cap 101 issue. 1.9m cap hold that is: 1) easily sheddable if we get KD; 2) keepable if we sign a 7-9 year max; 3) keepable if we whiff completely.

With Zubac we had a legit post scoring presence where you could run in and out sets. Hes a good inside defender and was our best free throw shooter. Yes magic (bleep) this up

I was actually going to say "hope". Hope that at least one of our young core could make it through an entire season without stumbling on injuries. Hope that we don't have to rely on old retreds at key positions (eg chandler). Hope that the brightness of potential still shines in Lakerland.

What did you think I meant?

Actually, yes. He's the only one of young core that stayed healthy. I really needed to see that at least one of are younger players had the physical presence to stay on the court.

I wasn't exactly thrilled to see Zu traded.

Never once thought that. Race doesn't have to be a factor in every single thing.

So what was the "favorable" trait then?

I think he was always a tough kid, but I didn't like him for the Lakers when he was selected. Foot speed and lift makes him useless as a five on defense, and he's probably not quick enough for a shooting four role until we do find a more mobile guy to play the five. He was not gonna find a role here.

Not gonna lie, wanted Brogdan with the pick we spent on Zub.

But he showed promising signs as a rookie, then really did not impress in his 2nd year.

I thought he was DOA when he collected 5 fouls on LMA in like 13 seconds and thought that was it.

Then he resurrected from the dead with a really nice string of games.

All I really care about is the 1.9m cap hold which didn't affect anything truly going forward. If Magic soured on him, then say so.

Read what he actually said. Dude is not exactly the master of the English language. He was saying he's on a winning team now and if you're a fan of his, please watch the Clippers. People want to start drama.

He did say something about the FO not wanting to keep him.

That could have been next year's center rotation. And now? McGee maybe? Chandler's corpse?

And as Yinoma stated above: it isn't just about the player, it's about the financial flexibility/asset management.

There is some good news to this. Looks like the Lakers will commit to McGee, and make a run for Cousins this off season. That seems like a good 1-2 punch, assuming Cousins can be got at a good price.

Zubac can now blossom into the player he will become, perhaps as a starter. Not sure if the Clippers will commit to him starting, but at least he'll have more playing time.

If the right pieces fall into place, then we're looking at a win/win for everybody.
