I saw the Ortiz thread first and posted there. Apparently he was actually shot through the back and then the bullet came through his abdomen. Just a very scary thing, though thank goodness he's apparently in stable condition after surgery and his brother said he thinks he's going to be OK. |
OMG that's much worse than they originally reported. Yikes. |

Damn. Gunshots to the midsection are very dangerous - high risk of infection etc.. Glad that it sounds like he'll be ok. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Introducing the Montreal Bay Devil Expos: Tampa Bay Rays Explores Becoming a Two-City Team
Quote: | The Tampa Bay Rays have received permission from Major League Baseball's executive council to explore a plan in which they would play early-season home games in the Tampa Bay area and the remainder of the year in Montreal, commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday.
While the plan is in its nascent stages, the Rays have embraced the two-city solution as the most feasible to saving baseball in the Tampa Bay area after years of failed attempts to build a new stadium in the region, sources said.
Under the plan, the Rays would play in new stadiums in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal, sources said. The number of home games each city would receive has not been determined, sources said.
Manfred referred to the idea of a two-city Rays team as a long-term project. |

^^this has to be the Rays trying to force local governments hand again with a stadium. I can't imagine that setup not being a huge problem in signing free agents....and I would think the small loyal fan base they do have would diminish. Also, why Montreal.....they were Tampa before Tampa.
Tampa is either going to have to step up if they want a MLB team, or the team needs to bounce. That is just reality in 2019. In the past there have been groups in Orlando trying to make a pitch to move the team to Orlando....and I have even seen queries about making it the Central Florida Rays and having them do the two city thing with Tampa and Orlando....but not sure how you justify building a MLB stadium for only half the season. |

Tampa Bay Rays of Montreal.
I don't see a 2 city team being a reality in MLB. So when they make the playoffs do they play the games in Montreal? |

maybe the American League Championship....but too cold for World Series, so back to Florida. Can you imagine being a moderately desired FA, and trying to sell your wife and family on this deal? |

Montreal only makes sense if they were a full time team, where they can probably lobby for a baseball specific stadium. Otherwise they will probably play at the old Olympic Stadium, which they only recently paid off. |

The Angels announced the incredibly sad news that Tyler Skaggs died today in Texas at the age of 27. No further details yet, but the game scheduled for today has been canceled. How terrible.
RIP. |

It'll be interesting to see how all those tiebreakers affect Guerrero going forward. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I think Joc and Vlade dual was easily the greatest matchup this format of the derby has ever produced. That was like the Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins slam dunk contest. |

when I was a kid, ESPN use to show old HR Derby's....it was in black and white, and it was just 2 guys and an empty field. As one guy was hitting, the other would be with the broadcast play by play guy talking. Anyone else remember those? I recall Micky Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron etc. |

It appears that 26 episodes were filmed in 1959-1960, at Wrigley Field in LA, no less. Once you click on the link, there's a link near the top that takes you to the TV show version that you're talking about.
