Thought I have a bit of fun, since times are so miserable for us Lakers fans.

So, if you had a time machine and you could chose a head coach for this current Lakers squad (including any pickups this off season), would you rather have a 80's version of Pat Riley as coach, or the Kobe/Shaq era Phil Jackson as coach?

Phil. Need to manage egos.

Love Pat, but he'd have them running suicides all day and night.

I wonder what books Phil would give out?

Maybe he gives Maginka a copy of "If you give a mouse a cookie"?

Jeannie gets "A Feast for Crows" and he just highlights all of Cersei's chapters?

Lebron gets a signed copy of "The Last Season"? Or Crime and Punishment?

Riley. Whip these youngins into shape and get LeBron to play with some effort. And this team would be doomed in the triangle.

Yeah. Pat Riley's teams were really empty cupboards. He only had Magic, Worthy, KAJ, Scott, Cooper, etc.

Right. I mean Phil's guy could have won with anyone where as Pat's never won with another coach.

I think we really do Magic a disservice when we say things like that. Seeing Bron now up close and every game, and still pretty much playing near his prime, he is no Magic in terms of passing. Bron's passing and assists are mundane, and his turnover passes are always puzzling. When Magic was playing, every night there was something to be in awe about. How did he find him? How did he get that pass through? Did you see that? It was truly Showtime every night.

The thread says for this current team. Imo pat riley fits it much better than phil jackson, because the type of player phil needs isn't on this team, whereas the type of player pat riley was successful with are

Right. But Pat always had teams chock full of HOF talent, so hard to see how he operates without 3 HOFers just like you said Phil needs a bail out artist like Kobe/MJ.

Neither, this roster would be a waste of their time. This team deserves head coach Magic Johnson.

He'd be better than Byron... at tanking.

All things being equal, Phil because he was a better leader.

But would Phil let this team play fast break basketball?

Brawn already skipped out on Riles. Gotta be Phil, though I don't think he wants a coach w/ that kind of gravitas because said coach might expect him to do things he doesn't wanna do and everyone'll get on Brawn if he discounts the title-winning coach.

Phil won 11 rings all with less talent than Riley's Showtime teams. He's the better coach. I'll take him in his prime which includes Tex Winter on staff

Phil would be stubborn on triangle which wont work todays game. Pat was actually behind of Chris Bosh playing at center and made him first legit small ball center before Draymon Green. Means he can adapt to changes in the game. Pat would also can run the FO which we need badly.

I think Pat would run Lebron into the ground at this stage of his career. I'd go with Phil and his ability to get throuh to players and get them to operate as a whole.
