Why do we do this every time? When Injuries are by far the #1 reason we are losing games

This has been done many times in many threads.

But you have Brook/Jules, this team is in the playoffs. Combined they make less than KCP + Lance. So you'd have another 9m in Rondo's deal and Beez's room exception level deal. You could have easily fielded a better team.

We're not talking about going 17-1 when LBJ is out. But with some roster continuity (Brook/Jules) and shooters with the 9m/room exception we could have gone .500 and not missed the playoffs in those 18 games.

We still mad about FO siging KCP, but we all know its part of the package arranged to get LBJ here. But we need a center and vet pg in this lineup. Getting Mcgee early filled the C early and it comes down to Jules PF or Rondo PG. If ur the FO what could u have done better looking at the summer FA list only key is KCP is a must sign.

In hindsight, one-year deals for Brook at $4-5M, Ellington at $6.5, and Tyreke Evans for $17M (overpay to ply him from taking that bigger role in Indiana) would've helped us more than our 5 vets did (still room for one more vet min, and that coveted roster space would be available). Brook really was a no-brainer, letting him walk was second only to not trading for PG13 on our list of blunders. Obviously McGee doesn't sign then, but Chandler would still have been available.

Seth Curry was looking for the backup PG spot, he wasn't signing up to be a third stringer. Bard mentioned Shabazz Napier, the player LeBron told the Heat to draft in 2014. Napier could've helped us stay afloat while Caruso was doing more important work for our South Bay affiliate.

Back on topic, even at 20-14, this team was neither a contender or even a lock for the playoffs. Even without the meme team being signed. There weren't any signings that could help our young guys shoot better, let alone stay healthy. Hart was toast after January 1st, and LeBron never regained his conditioning with his 4-week lower body injury keeping him out of his routine. But even a healthy Lakers team wasn't winning anything with the two best players having absolutely no chemistry together.

Where else was LeBron going? One more year in Cleveland? Chicago? If he goes to Philly, that completely marginalizes Ben Simmons, who was Klutch's best young asset at the time.

Get both. Rondo was coming from a 4mil contract with NO so he could be signed with the Room exception and gave Julius the same deal NO did @ 9mil.

If that's the case, then fine, who is paying Rondo 9m/year?

Brook signed for less than what Lance made.

McGee? who is signing him for more than a minimum and a starting role?

Once you really break it down, the excuses for poor roster constrcution do not stand.

I didn't have high expecations (just make the playoffs). And I'm fairly certain, even with in-built injury expectations no one else here thought we'd be watching yet again the ping pong balls.

That is the point we only have a few roster spot assume u get Brook, Rondo, Mcgee, KCP, who do u sign that salvage the season, so easy to blame the FO.

PG Zo, Rondo, Caruso
SG KCP, Svi
SF BI, Hart, Bonga
PF Kuz, LBJ, Williams
C Mcgee, Brook, Zu, Wagner

That is 15 in the roster 2 two way players, giving the 2 open spot to another player from the summer list really going to salvage the season. Remember we are preserving cap since we struck out on getting the second star for LBJ. Also Deng is still with the team and have not agreed to a buyout until Sept.

If we cold have gotten PG and LBJ, this roster would have been better constructed IMO, but we know that didnt happened and we punted for next summer.

It is a myth that we have an unusual number of injuries. This is a common misperception in sports: fans of a team do not have a basis for comparing their team's injuries to the injuries on other teams.

Go here, and find the chart that was posted on March 2:

https://twitter.com/ManGamesLostNBA

The x-axis is the total games lost due to injury. The size of the bubble is based on the impact of the games lost, based on one of the metrics (I don't remember which one they use -- maybe win shares). There are ten or more teams that have bubbles about the same size as ours. (The underlying data is behind a pay wall. If someone feels like dropping the bucks, go for it.)

So yes, it comes down to team construction. We could not withstand a level of injuries that was ordinary.

Funny how the TC ignores this post since it basically destroys his argument on an objective basis.

Top 5 teams with most games missed by injured players

1. DEN
2. CLE
3. PHI
4. BRK
5. CHI

Top 5 teams with wins lost due to injured players

1. GSW
2. CLE
3. TOR
4. NOP
5. HOU

Lakers no where near either list, so injury excuse doesn't fly.

So I guess several NBA analysts, NBA legends, and the entire Laker roster is wrong. But hey, you're right, so that's all that counts

So when presented with teams that had injuries you are admitting that they have better players, deeper rosters, better coaching staff, etc. So basically they run their (bleep) right as compared to the Lakers who had LBJ and couldn't make the playoffs.

Injuries derailed the season. I would then mention coaching, a new team that didn't develop chemistry, and a very tough Western Conference. If I was nitpicking, I'd say the Front Office failed to sign competent outside shooters. I guess it comes down to how much one reason versus another is to be faulted on a percetange scale. So, I'd put injuries at a HUGE number one reason, and I'd place a very small percentage to front office signings.

You place a small percentage to the front office signings because you refuse to see the facts just like with injuries and other teams handling them better.

Here's another one: the lakers avg 10.3 3p makes a game (21st). If the lakers make 11 3's, which is 1 more than their current avg their record is:

21-12

The lakers 3p avg is 33.3% (29th). If the lakers shoot slightly better (34%) their record is:

25-13

The fact a slight increase in shooting 3's makes our record better shows how poor roster construction was also a factor in derailing our season.

If the lakers signed more shooters in the offseason they would have had more wins. Heck, just re-signing brook lopez instead of stephenson would have a profound effect if we still made the same signings.

What are you basing this on? NO didn't win alot of games. Even with a healthy Jrue. And Brook is a 3pt specialist on the best team in the league. Probably 4th or 5th best player on the roster.
